Crossy Posted May 30, 2012 Report Posted May 30, 2012 Hi Folks, Looking to get the first proper trip of the summer under way on Friday with a couple of mates and was thinking about starting over dancing ledge for some Bream and then heading South over slack and trying a few wrecks on the flood tide. Looking at the chart the area of rips south of Poole looks quite interesting, has anyone fished this area? Is this the area that's know as the brittle stars? The weather looks OK at the moment so hopefully it won't be too lumpy. There are a few wrecks in and around the vacinity which I thought I would also give a go while i'm there. Anyone else out on Friday? Andrew Quote
great white Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Hi Andrew Certainly a well known area to many of us It should be holding fish by now and is close enough to the Brittle stars to give both a go. some of the steepest pinicles fish well on the drift for Cod and Pollack The wrecks are worth a go at anchor over slack for some good eels. and a few tope get around the area. Its a fair way out so I usually go there all day to make the most of drifting and anchoring, but should be good on that forecast. Slack water at about 0900. and 1500 ish Sounds a great prospect wish I could join you. Tight lines Charlie Quote
djredrupp Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 For information, would you fish the Rips the same as the brittle stars Charlie? i.e. hopping with shads? Sorry to hijack the thread a bit andrew! Quote
Maverick Martin Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Dan Yes but the rips can take more tackle Short traces with shads is fine for cod and pollock longer traces and jellies etc for pollock. Pollock will take a fair way up ie 35-40 turns whereas cod will mostly be hard on the bottom Martin Quote

For some reason I had slack water about 1pm, doh! Cheers, Andrew Quote
