Newboy
How deep is needle ledge at low water? I was returning via it at lw yesterday, I know I wouldn't have any problem going over it ( I remember coming over it in a chartered boat once in similar condition), but the way the water cascading over it just made me chickened out and took the long way round . Adam F
Its called the Shingles - and at low water springs the minimum depth is about 12' - it makes the ticker go though - when you are planning at 25 knots and have 90' of water under the keel then it jumps to 12'!!!! The bigger boats (liners and tankers have to keep clear) it is the overfalls that can be a problem to smaller boats. Just take care.
Swainiac
Kam..do u mean the shingles..or the bridge? The bridge is best crossed via a wide berth, it can be quite dangerous...the shingles shifts, again, worthy of a wide berth!! Rich
Newboy
I think it must be the bridge, or whichever is running 'straight' off the Needles westward. I should have taking a gps reading of it but the exciting just overwhelmed me.
Maverick Martin
Kam If its the shingles you are talking about be very wary. If you look at your chart you will see that the shingles dries out in parts Martin
Paul J
It's the Bridge, a short strech of really narly tackle hungry water close in to the needles going west for a couple of hundred yards. Drift it for Bass only in calm conditions ! be careful
