great white
Hi all Well my stand alone Radar unit packed up a week ago, and as it was a second hand unit over 5 years ago it is obsolete. if it could be repaired parts are as rare as rocking horse droppings and it could be a waste of time and effort. My first thought was get a scanner to run through the plotter [Lowrance Lcx 112c] But even the new kit fitted ready for the boats launch is out of date/obsolete. I could no doubt source the scanner, but is that just fitting old tech to the boat. So I could look at fitting another unit, probably Lowrance again. configured for Radar/plotter and just use the old combo unit as a stand alone fishfinder most of the time. At least I could turn it off over the wrecks I would gain a better radar, with overlay on the plotter for the vast amount of dosh involved. Does anyone use a broadband radar? How good are they? I have two meetings at the boat show on Thursday, so guess what I will be looking at for the rest of my time. Any advice before I go to the show may be useful Thanks Charlie
Maverick Martin
Charlie I have HD radar and although its very good I rarely use the overlay feature as it doesn't always line up with the plotter properly. Seek out Matt as he is at the show. He is better placed to give advice than us on here Martin
niggle
I have the Lowrance broadband radar rarely used but invaluable when needed.I can see buoys (handy on the ledge) and even seagulls sat on the water but I don't have overlay,I require a fluxgate compass for that. If you'd like to have a play, could be a good excuse for a trip on Wishin Too for some rays and congers Nige

Leicester Fisheagle
Be interested to know what you settle on as I am looking for an inegrated plug and play system for the new boat with radar/ais/plotter/sounder (3D) and radio and am also seeing Matt at the show, but on Wednesday. Allan.
Adam F
JV has a Lowrance broadband radar and like others have said, when I need it, it's great. It will easily pick up a Warrior sized boat in reasonable conditions. Like most radar once it's set up we leave it alone and just turn it on and off. ChrisE
I have the navman now northstar with over lay and i find it very good cheers graham Another vote for Northstar. We've had the broadband radar for the last two years and compared with the old style of radar is a gem both in terms of needing no start up time and what it will pick up. For instance it picks up pot buoys which the old style radar just doesn't. We find the overlay very good and it is as simple in fog that if there's a blob on the plotter that's not on the chart it is something like another boat or a pot buoy or whatever. Very pleased with kit. Chris
Oli
And another for Northstar. Our broadband radar is brilliant and very detailed, less radiation hazard than a mobile phone too!

Yep, Oli has picked up all the boats in PBM nicely, when he gets off the pontoon he will send a follow up report! Rob
Oli
Haha not just the boats. It's so detailed we can see pontoons, the fuel pumps and the bar too! If we zoom out a good few miles we're even able to see you lot and what it's like to actually be out of the harbour! Brilliant!
