sparky Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 Hello fellas, propeller on Marichelle is "singing" between 1000 to 1500 rpm, after that it goes away. Been like it since got boat . Wondering if anyone knows how to put "anti singing edge" on prop without removing it ? According to internet it can be done easily, but I just dont know how..............any advice please? Boat is out at moment....ideal time to get grinding !!!!!!!!!!!!! Mick Quote
great white Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 It is I believe just a case of taking the sharp edge off, more of a file job than a grinder Quote
sparky Posted March 1, 2013 Author Report Posted March 1, 2013 But which edge charlie?................ Leading ,trailing, suction, cant seem to find an easy to understand drawing anywhere !!! I assume the trailing edge is to the stern. Mick Quote
great white Posted March 1, 2013 Report Posted March 1, 2013 I can ask my engineer at work on Monday if that helps He has done this a few times prop works like a screw, so providing you know the direction of rotation ahead, its easy to work out Charlie Quote
sparky Posted March 1, 2013 Author Report Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks charlie, that would be really helpful, better to get it right before she goes back in. Mick Quote
pegleg Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 I remember she used to sing to me too Mick. Hope you get it sorted.. Quote

Jim Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 We could get a song ready for Red Nose Day: " Fishin all day " by the Singing Propellers ! Jim Quote
great white Posted March 6, 2013 Report Posted March 6, 2013 Hi Mick I have just discussed this with our engineer, He has done this by fileing a slight chamfer on the trailing edge, as discribed in Nigel's article. He tends to do so with just a few strokes of a decent file, so does not take anywhere near as much off as the drawing in that article shows. Ian's belief is that it is the tips that sing, so he only chamfers the trailing edge about a third in from the tip. If you can not tell from the prop which is the trailing edge going forward. You will know the correct Direction of Rotation of the engine/ shaft so you can work it out from that. Hope that this helps, and your singing stops or is greatly reduced Charlie Quote
sparky Posted March 7, 2013 Author Report Posted March 7, 2013 Thanks for the diagram Nige, had a word with Charlie today and he has made it clearer now, will have a look and see if I can do it..............if not it may be another call to Charlie !!!..Thanks Charlie also. Mick Quote
