Adam F Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 I have decided to fit a single wiper to BW. I know that it will shorten the life of the perspex, but I can live with that for having a clear window. I am planning to use auto parts - am I correct in doing this? I can source the motor and arm from a Corsa for about Quote
Bob F Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Adam, Not sureif you can change the sweep angle. If the motor came from a car it should be ok to connect to the 12V supply, but connect it through a fuse. Look on the motor and see if there is a current rating, and then use a fuse to suit. BF Quote
Jack the Lad Posted January 20, 2005 Report Posted January 20, 2005 I once converted a windscreen wiper motor with blade arm into an 'automatic jigger' . I connected into 12V, with an in-line fuse and all worked well - including catching the bait fish. Cheers - Jack Quote

Adam F Posted January 23, 2005 Author Report Posted January 23, 2005 OK, Guys thanks for the tips. I have decided to go for a proper marine jobbie. 1 last question though.... What is a Pantograph wiper and how does it differ from a 'normal' one? I am guessing it is one of the type that have a 'side to side; movement rather than a pendulem action?....if so this would suit the tiny window on BW....any ideas? Adam Quote
Paul D Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Well, the wipers used on trains to contact the overhead high voltage lines are called pantographs, I assume you are not thinking of getting one of these for BW Based on the above I will guess it is one that pushes up and down as opposed to side to side - only a guess mind and I am sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me. Bob F Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 A pantograph is one of those drawing instruments that's used to trace over a drawing and produce a magnified copy. A pantograph wiper is (I think) the one that has two arms going to the wiper blade which produces a flatter arc. Quote
domino Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 Adam, That is a 'pantograph' wiper, on James' new boat. The arm linkage is such that the blade will remain vertical and wipe right to the edge over the whole of its length. Cheers, Alan Quote
