A bit more progress today.

Total lay up will be 3 layers of mat, followed by the foam core, and then 7 layers on top of that.

After starting the first layers in the week I had to wait for new rollers to arrive as I'd run out. Today I have managed to put on 4 layers inc the core. So a few more layers on Sun and then the lay up will be complete.

I'd forgotten how labour intensive this is, making the mould to completing the lay up! Still it's the only way to get a quality finish.

I'll then leave it a few days to really cure well, before attempting to pop it from the mould later in the week.

As you see it in the pic is that how it will look underneath ?

Finished this evening with last 2 layers. That was more work than I remembered! 114 separate pieces of glass to be laminated... 8 layers deep, and 5kg of resin.

It can now cure through well for a week or so whilst I get on with other jobs before I pop it out of the mould, trim it to size and flow coat the underside.

Hi Adam,

looking at the underside of my bathing platform it has a number of stiffeners front to back. and extra bits where it will be attached to the back of the boat and where the ladder will be attached.

Home from 2 days working up North this evening and couldn't resist having a poke around the mould.... Got a bit carried away, but she popped out easily!

Just as I had planned / designed it.

I'll check the fit tomorrow and then trim it to size and flow coat the underneath, and gel / grit the top.

All it needs then is a few bolts and attention turned to the stainless boarding ladder which will also act as support.

More progress today. One of those days where lots of work completed but hardly anything to actually show for it.

Basically the original owner hadn't a clue when it came to skin fittings. Nothing fitted properly and many things had been bodged with plumbing waste fittings and lots of silicone :-(

The engine hatch drains leaked like a sieve into the engine room and the main deck hatch drains were set up to drain straight into the bilge.... Just where you want fish guts and dirty water going.... Not!

So que a trip to Aquafax and a bag bulging with a fair few £'s worth of new fittings. It was like a sauna laying down in the bilge today... An absolutely horrible job, but now she is fitted properly and all 8 sets of drains and fittings are done properly.

It was that bad I had to shower in the marina before Rach would let me back in the car.... And I'm still itching like made from the grp dust :-( glad that's over with!

Next job is a new engine hatch lid to be moulded and laminated and the engine box to be cut out and re-glassed in.

More progress again this week in the evenings.

I've laid up the mould for the deck mounted sonar, and popped it out on Thurs. A quick buff up and polish and it's ready to go. Now just need to template the complex bulkhead it's going to fit to, scribe and cut to fit and fabricate some hidden brackets so it fits flush and secure.

A few new toys also arrived this week, and give clarity to the electronics package. We are going for a full Garmin set up using the Garmin Marine Network, which is an Ethernet based package and will allow full integration of the 3 screens and auto pilot. The main helm will get a pair of 12" units, the deck gets a 8" touch screen. The GMR18 HD radar arrived today. Just a transducer, black box and the autopilot to source now.

I've also decided to bring JV home for the main winter fit out. I will save so much time not having to commute 50 mins to do the work and have a fully kitted, heated workshop at home which will speed things up immensely!

Finished the swim platform and cockpit mould today.

Swim platform has been flow coated underneath and had the 2" rubber fender added. This gets an Ali plate inside it to ensure it stays flat when bolted and doesn't kink.

The cockpit mould will get bolted from inside above the door in the cockpit and houses a 8" sonar to watch wrecks and banks whilst fishing.

Next job is to sort the engine box and build new GRP battery boxes.

Another day, another mould! This time is grp battery boxes. We have big 210ah units x2 on JV so off the shelf ones won't do. These are just basic boxes but 2 moulds are needed as the lid needs to be slightly bigger than the base to over fit.

I'm also learning as this project goes on and this time I'm using melamine board for the mould as it will give a better finish than mdf. I'm also doing the corner fillets properly with plasticine this time, and wondering why I haven't used it before, easy to use and give a super finish.

Haulage contractor coming tomorrow to work out how we get JV into my driveway. Looking at bringing her home mid oct, when the major works will start.

No going back now!

Hats off to Percy at Elvey Transport, he earnt his money today. JV was huge on the back of his 8 wheeler, but the narrow lanes of Dorset were only the start.

Reversing into my lane with only 2" to spare between buildings was the next stage, and then craning it over a grade II listed building and wall into the drive.

Anyway, she's back and work has begun in earnest! I only had a few hours on her this afternoon, but managed to strip out the galley, fridge, helm and roof lining.

Its going to get worse before it gets better....

The list of shocking things I find grows by the minute. This boat really was built by a blind guy in a rush!

Take a look at the pics.... Cardboard used as a gap filler, shoddy electrical connections, the metals strip used to hold the whole cooker in place, steaming lights attached to bits of broom stick with silicone, the throttle control with m8 bolts on m6 studs..... I won't go on!
