great white Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Things like this just fuel up the anti angling lobby Quote
Maverick Martin Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Nothing to say it was anglers but shame on whoever did this Quote
Adam F Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 As much as I disapprove, this isn't illegal? Would it be any different if it was 50 flatfish / cod carcasses? It seems a commercial fisherman has landed a catch of smoothound, headed and gutted them and dumped the rest... Ok so maybe he should have binned them and not dumped it, but smoothounds aren't illegal to catch and sell if you're a commercial are they? Quote
Maverick Martin Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 It wouldn't matter what species it would still be distasteful and in my opinion out of order. What if a slaughter house had killed a load of cows or whatever then dumped the carcasses at the side of a field/road, same thing in my book and there would be an outcry and rightly so. Some people anglers/commercials will never get it the sooner they are gone the better life will be for the rest of us. Mal Thomas, Adam F and niggle 3 Quote
Rob Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Maybe dumping the heads out to sea to feed the food chain, as opposed to binning / land filling them. Adam F 1 Quote
Adam F Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Yep, agree with that and it's a fair point. Quote
Coddy Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Interesting article about smooth hounds http://www.treehugger.com/natural-sciences/irelands-smooth-hound-sharks-under-threat-from-troubled-fishing-practices.html I know it is a few years old now Dave Quote
Stuie Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Fully agree Martin. It only takes a tiny thoughtless minority to give the impression that events such as this are the norm - when in fact that's not the case at all Quote
