Mike Fox Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 Just was going to warn...the boats are three abreast on buoys at Alderney, and the anchorage is allegedly busy. If anyone is coming over this weekend, suggest you prepare to anchor, with allowance for a 6-7m tide, with all of the best spots potentially taken. If you get a chance to share a buoy, remember to bring enough rope to attach to the buoy itself, plus bow and stern lines to your neighbour, plus spring lines to prevent surging, and enough fenders for both sides. Good luck all those that partake Mike Rob 1 Quote
Steve S Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 Thanks for the heads up Mike, Alderney Week I guess is making it extra busy. Glad I am taking my dingy with o/b could be a long run to the pontoon or a long wait for the taxi. I am quite expecting to anchor with good weather forcast well ahead and arriving late after fishing the banks. Quote
Adam F Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 Looking good! Lots to do to get Jv ready, but can't wait! Quote
Adam F Posted August 4, 2015 Author Report Posted August 4, 2015 I'm thinking it will get gradually quieter as the weekend progresses anyway. However extra fenders stowed and we too are taking the dingy and outboard. Overnight mooring on the Shoale anyone? Quote

Rob Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Quarry Party you say - now you are talking! I was talking to a guy yesterday who was brought up on Alderney - his advice was that Alderney Week is crazy and there used to be some great live music etc too! Quote

Rob Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 Min sea temp recommended for Turbos is 52/55F, currently 62 in western approaches and 59.9 off Alderney. We don't need to worry like the April trips! Quote

Steve S Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Fear yea not. Spoke to Mark, the banks are fishing well, a few less Turbos than earlier in the season but more Brill now, including some monsters! He did tell me how big they had been caught to.... All the banks are producing but more smaller ones on Schole, as usual. Bass fishing had not been so good but has been picking up very recently. Quote
Rob Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Ha! me too Steve - he said for us to fill our boots with macs if we can get some on the way over! R Quote
plaicemat Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 For those with tenders, it may be wise to pick up a mooring on arrival and leave the tender on it for the day. Quote
great white Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 I can feel the excitement from here Weather still seems OK, hope that you have a great trip. Do not forget that we have an agreed deal with the fuel and taxi prices. Rob and Steve S 2 Quote
