Mike Fox
Hi Charlie, Can you remember the forecast and the actual wind conditions and sea state you experienced in 2011? Many of the club members might struggle to appreciate how offshore conditions change beyond the lee of Portland, and how they're compounded by the stronger tides on the French side of the channel. Thanks, Mike

Adam F
JV crew have made the (easy) call to postpone this time round. I cant make the 13/14/15th trip, however JV may still go with Ian skippering. I will be looking at the 28th May weekend for a trip over. Steve S
Tigerfish has rescheduled to Friday the 13th to Monday 16th May for the second attempt. Clive (live bait) and Graham (Bramble banker) are joining me but we are one down with Graham's Dad not being able to make it. Currently we plan to stay night one in Alderney and the next two nights in Guernsey. There is room for one more if interested please PM me. great white
Sorry Mike I do not have a diary of the exact weather Forecast. It was accurate to what we experienced, and safe enough at a sensible passage speed [10-12 knots in the worst areas] but the swells mid channel stopped us all fishing which meant it was just a long slog home. We burnt as much fuel as we usually do wreck hopping and fishing all of the way. Adam F
2011 return leg home was nice and sunny! The wind however was 3-4 occasionally 5 Westerly, Steve Porter gave us the nod some 10 miles off that conditions were ok so we went for it..... It was mainly 5 on the port beam all the way home..... As Charlie said not unsafe for our boats but uncomfortable and slower.... I couldn't make a cuppa on the way back, which was some 5 hours from memory! iansimpson63
I have accepted an invitation to join Chris on Kingfisher for the trip, luckily he doesn't snore. I will be buying some tracing paper and crayons for the trip so as we can do some brass rubbing in the historic churches over there. Please let me know if you are interested, better than going to a pub in the evening perhaps. Cheers Ian Mike Fox, Neal, Sam and 2 others
Mike Fox
Thanks, it helps understanding the comfort limitations as well as the safety ones. We used to take about 9 hours in Frisky, in most conditions. We left in 3-4m seas one year to avoid a previously unforecast NE 6-7, with a view to going to Cherbourg, and ended up coming home, with 35 knots. I think the "making a cuppa in comfort" is an important red line too Mike
