Fishing on the edge. Down to earth and the young guy who does it is natural and unpretentious. 2) Which one do you like the least and why? The rest, full of self satisfied, pretentious prats in fishing environments none of us could hope to equal with every gadget given free by manufacturers, or their own brand crap they want to make more money out of by foisting it on us. 3) Is there a presenter who you enjoy watching and why? The lad I mentioned in the first answer, but I am damned if I can think of his name. 4) Is there one you just can't abide and why? Maverick Martin
Would agree "mostly" with Mike And the young mans name is Henry Gilbie Martin
Newboy
I like John Wilson, Paul Young and Henry Gilbert wotisame. They all have one thing in common, great enthasism, everytime they catch a good fish, they are so excited you can literally see the veins pumping. John Wilson makes things simple, easy to understand. Paul Young is down to earth "this's a beautiful fish, good eating too, let put it in the fish box" Henry is simply a nutter! He's nut about fishing, he will climb any rocks just to get to a good fishing mark. If I have to choose one, I will choose Paul to be my favourite altho he does fly fishing mostly. There isn't one presenter who I really can't stand. I find Matt Haynes can be boring from time to time, Botham and Dean Macey are into fly and course which I'm not interested in. Rex Hunt too much 'put on show'.

Paul D
It has to be Fishing on the Edge with Henry Gilbey, purely because the enthusiasm he has for the sport. Matt Hayes - finds he gets irritating for some reason. IFish - that has some good boat fishing shots ( ie. They launch their boats as well sometimes ). Extreme Fishing is one that Helen likes but that is nothing to do with the fishing
Adam F
Just to be different - I like them all....in their own way. IMO their isnt enough on the telly, and the likes of John Wilson, Rex Hunt etc - whilst they all have thier own perticular querks - have done alot for the sport. Yes, I agree Rex is abit 'off the wall' John Wilson maybe a little self rigeous - but hey, look at the mixture of characters we have on this forum - imagine what a fishing show would be like if we all did one!! The best one I have ever seen is a home made jobbie that Jimbob and his mate Mark make using a digital camcorder last year when they did the all nighter off St Albans....Mark did a super job with the editing, it had the boat launch steaming shots, all dubbed with 'decent' music (not like some of the others who seem to use music from blue videos!) and above all it had Jimbob on a real red letter session...in fact it may prompt me to have a crack myself this year. jack
I enjoy most of them, especially the two ex Rex Hunt youngsters on I Fish.I like Paul young, and watch his fly fishing too,he has a nice attitude etc. But my pet hate is the two As****** on Hardcore fishing. All mouth;shouting and music blasting above the dialogue.whist they leap about, sometimes accompanied by Bikini clad young girls. They seem to have a never ending supply of Dorado,I suspect its very often the same footage..moaning as usual...jack
Afishionado
Adam admits to his peccadillos.... (not like some of the others who seem to use music from blue videos! As like most of the pure at heart and naicely brought up gentlefolk on this forum I have never heard let alone seen a blue video. Perhaps you can arrange a showing of one at the next meeting so we may all appreciate the musical content vis-a-vis the same in instructional fishing programs. Bob F
What about a compromise...we'll screen Jimbob's video instead. That would make a interesting Focus Topic at one of our next meetings. It would be a good laugh at least. What about it JimBob???? I for one would like to see it. Sam
Ifish is my favourite the two lads in that are funny and i love on the edge he takes his fishing so seriously and he fishes were we fish. the worst one has got to be mainstream with matt hayes because he spends more time looking in the villages than he does fishing and when he does it is for fish the size of your finger. my favourite presenters are the guys from Ifish they are so funny, and rex hunt just makes me laugh how nuts he is. the person i dont like is john wilson i just find him annoying but i do like the kind of fishing he does because it is always a bit of both and dont like the ones were they just spend the whole show in a river and catch one fish. sam
Gnasher
Favourite programme......... A Passiion for Angling.......... Its a million miles better than anything else. Worst programme........... Fishing the edge.....................Henry Gilby is useless....Its not very educational when the bloke dosn't know what hes on about. Best Presenter................. Matt Hayes by a mile, not only is he a top presenter, he is a first class fisherman and previous Drennen Cup holder. He even shows stalking a conger from the margins on a harbour........1st class viewing Worst Presenter............... Henry Gilby.....Need i say more..........luckily hes cut his hair....... (rex hunt is very close behind with his yidida, and thank your mother for the rabbits garbage)
Swainiac
Do any of you older members recall that programme on TV called "The fishing Race", where anglers had to catch as many different types of fish in a set period of time? I thought it was ace!!! Although Henry Gilby is a top prenter and angler. Rich
jack
Just a silly point, but did anyone know that the chubbier lad on I FISH got a degree at university for............."casting" ..there's hope for us all, they will be doing degrees for getting out of bed before 9 am next !! jack
great white
I agree with Sam The lads on I Fish are good viewing, I would love the oportunity to fish where they go. and they seem good at all manner of tactics etc. John Wilson is just tiresome. Matt Hayes on Total fishing has some handy tips and lots of variety, but his other programs are dragged out to much. Rex Hunt and John Wilson both get carried away with them selves and their catch, which can wind me up. But its great to see how enthusiastic they still are for a sport that they have been making programs about for so long. At times the real face of fishing comes through, from behind the camera angles and poses. IE Rex nearly crying last week when he broke an old rod that had just been re built, and he was shaking like a baby when he saw the size of a huge catfish before it was netted. John Wilsons face in some of the outakes when a fish gets off or the line breaks is classic. and an old clip when he drops a fish [what a surprise] on a rod and snaps the rod. since getting more fishing through cable at Christmas we have viewed a fair bit and learnt a few tips. ITS ALL BETTER THAN WATCHING SOAPS Charlie

(rex hunt is very close behind with his yidida, and thank your mother for the rabbits garbage) Im in 100% agreement with Dan, and what he said about "A Passion for Angling". Its the best fishing series ever made. That Henry Gilbey is possibly the biggest noddy i have ever seen-absolutely useless, and so annoying! I get the feeling that no-one really likes Matt Hayes, well i think he is a superb angler who can do no wrong. As Dan said anyone who can win the Drennan cup must be a top fisherman. Any John Wilson programme is great viewing cos hes another top fisherman! I would love to see fishing programmes brought back to normal evening tv, cos if we want to promote the sport, then we need to show people how much fun it is. Newboy
It's not that Matt Haynes is not a good fisherman, but he's just too cool to be likened by me. He can ctach plenty of fish but the emotion and excitment just aren't there. There have been times when a trace parted and I nearly chuck the whole outfit into the sea. If that happens to Matt, he'd just smile and say 'Well that's fishing...'

Gnasher
Some info on those of who u watched passion for Angling.....Secret Lake, he gets a huge Carp called Fat Lady........The secret lake where that clip was filmed was a different lake to the rest of the episode and it was just stalked from a corner of a pit in Ringwood...not quite so secret (Adam F, i think you probabbly have fished the chalks on somerly?).....Still great viewing even if the blokes do tell a few porkies in the show and still my fave. R.E Matt Hayes....some enjoy, some dont, each have different tastes, i probabbly enjoy that more because i have a course fishing back ground. If i was any good at catching sea fish then Henry would probabbly get my vote, but as im useless, he dosnt get it. Dom....U will just have to get sky..........
