Adam F
Who insures your boat whilst you are trailering? The Boat Insurer or the Car Insurer? Quick Question - Quick Answer. Adam
Maverick Martin
Adam I understand that your vehicle insurer has to be informed if you are going to trail but there should be no additional cost involved. Your boat insurer should also be informed when you take out the insurance on your boat that it will be trailed. I am not 100% sure who covers your boat in transit, anyone any idea? I will now look at my policies and check before I start trailing Martin
Bob F
You just call the boat insurer and they will cover the boat from that day. The actual Policy will come through later with payment and cover starting on the day you picked up the boat. Bob F.
Bob F
And to answer your question... ... you boat insurance covers the boat whilst trailering, BUT you must make sure this is in your policy. Your car insurance will NOT cover your boat. Bob F
Maverick Martin
Bob I believe you still have to inform your car insurer that you will be towing, also you should check your driving licence to ensure that you have the correct licence. I believe that those who have taken their test recently also have to take a supplementary test for towing Martin
Bob F
Martin, Yes, sorry, I wasn't disagreeing with that. You are correct, it is prudent to inform your car insurer that you will be towing, if it is not already stated in your policy, just so your car is covered for damage whilst towing. What I was trying to emphasize is it's important to know that your BOAT is not covered by your car insurance whilst towing. The same goes for caravans. Adam F
If you sold Splash out and the caravan and the poodle(and the kids??!) you would then be able to buy an Arvor!!!!!!!!

Swainiac
Adam.........if it helps, when I took out commercial cover for my Hi-Lux, they asked me if and how often I would be trailing........so I guess that you have to inform them. Cheers , Rich
