Maverick Martin
Next Sunday 28th May is our first family day this year. Last year we had our first on the water gathering at Pottery Pier (northish side of brownsea island) 8 or 9 club boats rafted up and had lunch, a few drinks and the hardy had a dip in the briney then off for a cruise about. Excellent way to pocket some points The plan will be to get afloat by about 12, make contact on the vhf ch6 to see where we can gather, meet up and just play it by ear from there on in. Lets just hope the weather gets better in time and if it does Maverick will be out will you? Martin

Bob F
Hopefully I'll have the pedestal seat installed by then. Ripped out the seat box today and tidied the area up a bit. Now need to get some screws and fit the pedestal. Hopefully tomorrow. BF
great white
I hope that the weather clears up for you Martin You will need to get a differant anchor to swing on this year but I hope the day is as good as the last one Charlie
great white
I was trying to find the photo of all the boats lined up last year but it seems to have gone missing from the file. If anyone has it please send me a copy by email, and post one charlie
duncan
Unfortunately I will be running Phaeton back from Yarmouth that day, enroute to a campsite in the New Forest............. the good news (from my perspective) is that I should be OK for the whole of the next weekend and fishing! I will look out for you all and hope the weather turns out great for all our sakes. Edited May 22, 2006 by duncan
plaicemat
How the devil are you going to get Phaeton into a campsite in the New Forest? Wouldn't a caravan be more appropriate? Terry B. Edited May 22, 2006 by plaicemat
duncan
thanks for that Terry.......... wouldn't make a bad caravan really, just stick it on the trailer.........better than most caravans would manage as a boat anyway! anyway (in a vain attempt to deflect the attention elsewhere) at least Mike's bringing the bathroom and we all know Adam's famous for his floating kitchen.......... TomBettle
How the devil are you going to get Phaeton into a campsite in the New Forest? Wouldn't a caravan be more appropriate? Terry B. Terry Didn't you see Top Gear last night? Duncan has doen the opposite with his winter refit to Phaeton and attached wheels to the bottom. He's driving straight to Beaulieu and straight up the slipway. His new awning on Phaeton extends out to make a full trailer tent and the roof lifts to form a double bed. I heard that Winnebego have asked him to help design their next camper....
Fugazi
Well I'm going camping next month and my boat will be used as the trailer tent for carrying all the camping gear! Just hope the weather improves by then as you can't beat fresh mackerel cooked on the old camp fire as the sun sets over West Bay. Maverick Martin
Well predicted winds for sunday are westerly around 14/15 mph So it looks like the best places to shelter from the winds would be either South Deep (western side of Green Island) or maybe Studland bay which (good for ice creams and swimming ), as its a bank holiday weekend would probably be very busy. Any other ideas? Martin
Bob F
We'd be able to play with the doughnuts at Studland. Which would save me getting my collar grabed again... BF

CREZZ
Had a really good time , eventually . I managed to get her indoors out in the boat for the first time and wanted to make a good impression so made sure boat etc was well prepared before the off , or so i thought . Towed boat down to baiter without a hitch ( no pun intended ) which was my first time towing so i was feeling rather pleased with myself as we rolled the boat off into the water , so far so good . The FPO ( can someone please tell me what that means ) was sat there all regal like until she spotted my new VHF radio , 20 questions followed , price etc , what about my new kitchen , i'm sure most of you have the ear bashing regarding toys , sorry , vital pieces of communication equipment , as i told her . Started to prime the fuel and managed to spray petrol up her arm , then realised that the connection on my new 5 gallon tank was buggered , quickly switched to the old 3 gallon tank which only had about a 2 gallons in it . Good start , possibly going round to studland and only 2 gallons of useable petrol , so its off to the fuel barge , called up Maverick on the radio and told him the situation , immediately followed by " ark at you , Maverick Maverick Maverick , what do you sound like , thats all you bought thing for to sound important " . Bless her ! On arrival at the fuel barge explained the situation and the best they could do was fill up the 3 gallon tank and sell me a 2 gallon spare can full of fuel , very reasonable too , i don't think , 3 gallons of petrol and a cheapo plastic can

Maverick Martin
Hi Andy Glad you enjoyed your first adventure out in the boat and good to meet your good lady. BTW FPO stands for "fishing permission officer" We launched at about 11am from Cobbs with no mishaps and the only annoyance being some flash family with their new Range Rover, shiney boat and huge new Honda blocking the slip. They couldn't get the ob to start and decided to move the car adjacent the boat on the slip then connect up jump leads etc etc, why the guy couldn't haul his boat off the slip and allow others users full use is beyond me. Anyway other than the fact that we had to launch on the awkward side of the slip all went smoothly, even ere indoors handled the ropes impeccably, she
Coddy
Anyway to sum up Veronica and I both enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the next one which will hopefully be supported by more members. As Andy stated in his post the wives actually do like to get out on the water now and again just so long as the tub doesn't bob about two much Martin In my case it would be a total scrub down of the boat so no "Fishy" smells are around or odd bits of old squid or worms floating around before she would set foot on it. Oh of course the sea state would have to be like a mill pond! Coddy Edited May 29, 2006 by Codfather
