I have just picked up a new warp for my boat. The only prob is it is only about 40 mtrs long, and I think about 80-90 mtrs will be needed.

It is reasonable quality rope - proper warp I think.

My question. What is the best way to join the 2 together? I want to get as smooth seamless joint as possible?

PS. Where would you advise me to go to get my extra warp. Being in mind I dont really want pot rope?

Adam - either 3 strand or Octoplait are reasonably easy to splice together. Time wise 3 strand takes about a small bottle of beer and Octoplait a large can! Done properly you will get nearly full strength from the join and, if faired properly, the joint will be fine for passing through Alderney rings, hands etc - basically you will end up with a small stiff section the length of the splice.

If you want detailed instuctions there are a number of web facilities and books articles etc around

The club safety listing says you need a second warp & anchor aboard the boat

http://www.pbsbac.co.uk/safetyequip.htm

The general rule for your set up sould be: Chain - length of boat, Rope - 3 x max depth of water you are likely to anchor in.

My spare warp isnt that long - maybe 80 feet - but this will hold in 80% od my fishing locations should I need it. But I suppose to be on the safe side - you should have an exact copy of your main set up.

Does this guy sell it in smaller quanititys than 100m?

Oops

I thought this thread was about adam joining rope and expecting to fish our area with around 80/90 metres of rope, missed newboys comment. Sorry if I have confused everyone.

St Albans is obviously not in the solent but is half way between poole and weymouth

Adam are you sure 90metres will be enough to fish all our club waters?

Dunno?

95% of my fishing is in 60' max. But I take your point - I will be venturing further afield with BW this year. So may need more than 90'.

I have 40 mtrs already, was looking for another 40/50, giving me say 100mtr - or 300'. Working on 3 x depth of water that means I can anchor in probably about 150 max??

On some of the deeper marks 35 to 45mtr to the west

and the deeper holes at St Albans 55m [200ft] The tide can run very strong with a swell to contend with as well.

At times I have had to use most of my anchor warp to hold bottom even with a 25lb CQR and 30ft of heavy chain.

My warp is a full coil 220mtrs of 3 strand 12mm Nylon.

It is also good to have a long warp when anchoring uptide of wrecks, so that the anchor does not have to be dropped to close.

1. So that it does not get dropped into debris around the wreck

2. It gives you a chance to ensure it is in the ground correctly and react if it is not before it drags into the wreck [Goodby Anchor and Chain weep.gif ]

3. It gives you more room to recover the anchor when you leave before it hits the wreck as you atart to drift [Goodby anchor and chain again weep.gifweep.gif ]

Therefore my advice would be to get at least one long warp 200mtrs onboard.

My spare is much shorter, but is only for emergancy use should the first be lost
