Adam F
Gord and I chanced our hand yesterday morning having seen the weather window... Launched at 8am - xchurch bay looked OK, and the wind was barely a F3 if a little grey... Decided on Xray to tuck in as much as possible from the SW-erly. Fishing started with dogs in the between the rain, but sitting comfortably under the canopy, hand made rolls and bacon with hot tea made things seem alot better. Anyway, by the time we had the 2nd round of sarnies, we stuck ou head out and in less than 20 mins the F3 was a good F6 and white horses everywhere - the swell even picked up... We made the call to head back before it got too worse, and a slow 8 knot run home with a big tailing sea before a bumpy Run and fun getting the boat on the trailer in the driving rain and near gale wind. Anyway back home by 11am - about a dozen dogs the only result.
Maverick Martin
Nice try Adam, this winds got to give up soon surely?" Dean and I went out for a spin in "Awol" today (Sunday). Set off at about 9am and back in for 11am. Just went up and down the harbour and swash to run the engine up and give us a chance to get to grips with everything. It was bloomin windy, didnt see many others out....wimps Went to the quay and fuel'd up to see how much we had used. I now know why diesel users rave about them Martin
alun j.
Well done Adam.......for trying! I was looking longingly / enviously at early o' clock ...... thinking Sat. was 'The Day' of the weekend, with v. light winds forecast, and I was confined to barracks with family event and all relatives present. When it's calm, the rain's not so bad........... lots of rain but it seemed calm, even when we went out to lunch....... obviously not [at sea!!]. Looks like I had the best of the weekend; despite the wind today, we stayed dry and saw a few glimpses of sunshine. Looks pretty terrible for the rest of Jan.; I'd better put my flatties in Charlie's book or there'll be even less for Jan. reports! Fancy a flattie bash?? Alun. Just went up and down the harbour and swash to run the engine up Shame we missed you Martin. Got held up and didn't get to the quay until oneish, by which time it was howlin'. We're just snatching a few shorties here 'n' there for the engines sake to put on hours at low-medium revs. Be nice to have a potter around in the company of another club boat in the harbour when anyone is out. Martin Eeeeeeeeeeeeer......... Are you sticking to 'Maverick' as your web'andle or going AWOL??.............. T

Newboy
You have to go off shore for anything worthwhile, like blonde ray or spurdog.

duncan
don't think they do - was't this why they got hit really hard on a couple of occassions when sea temps dropped really low with hard winters?

Along with the congers. Seems to be happening this year with triggers, there's been a whole rash of reports of trigger fish washing up after the cold (er) snap across Christmas.
