munterhunter
We are looking at buying some digital scales anyone know if these are any good and any accurate/cheap ones to get think
Maverick Martin
Hi I have Rapala electronic scales, they are very good although it is difficult to get a true reading on the boat as they are quite sensitive. Still better than the cheap spring balance kind though. I paid around
Swainiac
Gerry's of morecombe are currently flogging Berkley scales......0-50lb
domino
There are plenty on e-bay - have a look here. I've got the Rapala 50lb one - seems OK.
Adam F
Wow! - clicked your link and in under 2 mins I had bought a set! Was pretty pleased with Martins ones on the Alderney trip. They dont really give you a choice like when using spring balances - just 1 figure. Adam

(Not that I'm catching fish that warrant weighing by the way!!!!!!!!!) Rich

Paul D
Adam, Don't forget "batteries not included" Also, I have the same scales and they dont like getting wet - I need to check mine still work, but I am hoping the battery went flat/corroded ( after about 10 uses ). Swainiac
Mmmmmmmmmmmm.....................you cant weigh a fish on a multimeter!!!!! Rich
domino
Mmmmmmmmmmmm.....................you cant weigh a fish on a multimeter!!!!! Rich Yes, you can... 1. Measure the resistance (Rl, in Ohms) and the length (l, in mm) from Nose to Tail. 2. Measure the resistance (Rw, in Ohms) and the width (w, in mm) across the widest point. 3. The weight can then be calculated using the following formula - (Rl^2 x l) x (πRw^2 x w) ------------------------ kg sq root(l x w) divide the result by 2.2 for lbs. Taken from research notes published on the MAFF website - here. Hope this helps.

Maverick Martin
Mr. Fish recorder Can we now take it as we have the formula that we could all save a packet and buy cheap multimeter instead of expensive electronic scales I think we had better stop there before it gets to technical. I just want to go fishing not take a maths degree Martin
great white
I think I will continue to record the fish in pounds and ounces not watts, amps and volts. Charlie
Paul D
Bet it doesn't work so well when measuring Electric Rays eh
