Harry S Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 I now have Mariner 4hp 2 stroke mounted on a bracket on the rear of Hook'n'Eye as an auxiliary engine but I need some advice as to how to keep it there! Should I leave it mounted when trailering? How can I stop someone from nicking it? How can I ensure it doesn't fall off? If it does fall off at sea, how can I stop it disappearing forever? All advice etc welcome. Harry Quote
duncan Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 It's not going to make a whole lot of difference to the loads on your transom when towing so leaving it there is fine Suspect you will loose it if you leave it unattended - one way or another (rip the mounting off the transom, cut it off, unbolt mounting or remove it from mounting). Don't Fit it properly so it's doesn't fall off..................you might use a lanyard if installing it/removing it at sea but it's not going to prevent it disappearing if the OB comes off at 25 knots in a rough sea - and may well result in more expensive damage to the hull and main engine if it does 'hold'. Sinbad Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Harry OK its an auxilliary.... 400 quid or so ? spend 25 on an insurance approved lock and forget about it. Or unbolt it each time and store inside the cabin / car I had a small lug on mine suitable to fit a stainless wire cable with soft 'talurit' eyes, which I padlocked to the bracket. Then if it came undone it wouldnt dissapear into the water, and stopped the opportunist walking away with it when the car was parked up (assuming you are trailing). Duncan is probably right though, it might dissapear, so use method 1 or 2. When trailering, keep the engine down, not tilted. Hope this makes sense! Paul Quote
Harry S Posted March 14, 2007 Author Report Posted March 14, 2007 Duncan, Paul, Many thanks for your advice. I'll attach it to the boat, find a way of locking it onto the bracket and leave it there. Its insured if it gets stolen. Hope to see you on the water this year. Regards, Harry Quote
