Adam F
Well, we decided to go to Weymouth after all, being ever the optimists!! The sun was out, but a brisk NE and 3c air temp made it feel like codding weather, not spring plaice fishing! Out of the harbour conditions were not nice, so very quickly plan B sprung into action and we scarpered over to Ringstead out of the wind. Much like Duncan's foray, we had dropped on the kennels, so after and hour we upped sticks and headed round to the East a few miles. Much nicer here and bites from the off. Enticer opted to fish a little further offshore. On OotB We had a fantastic days fishing: Rays (Spotted and T/Back) to 12lb 12oz, conger to 20lb, 2 bass to 5lb, bream to 2lb, plaice, several bull huss to 8lb, smoothound, doggies, pout, and wrasse. Delightful fishing too - never needed more than 6oz all day and fished with light plaice rods. OotB performed well for her first proper outing and cruised smoothly through the nasty chop, and returned a miserly peformance on fuel, certianly no more than BW. Maverick Martin
Nice report Adam, sounds like you made the best of a not so perfect (weather wise) day We struggled on "Awol" The boat performed faultlessly the fish however didn
alun j.
Just recovered from the rediculously early start yesterday..... then a late night in the Gastronaught's kichen!! Many thanks to Adam and Gordon for taking their boats on a day that started as cold as only a few days this last winter.........and with bone penetrating NE wind. What a fantastic fishing boat Adam has sorted for himself....... it must be one of the best big boat/small boat compromises going.........and helped keep Adam smiling all day. The weather had me thinking the fishing was likely to be hard going; with the confused sea, uncertain tide flow, water temp of 7C ..........and NO WAY of going out to the Shambles........so we bashed our way over to Ringstead, then out a bit further under the cliffs ......and the sun came out! As Adam said................ fish from the first drop......... and one surprise after another ....... I think we counted 13 species .......plus a few Spider crabs that I'm just about to prepare for lunch. Great to see 3 bream......the biggest at 2 lb. 2oz was a nice blue male [ tonight's supper] and the other two girls went back. We both had a good Bass....... mine, a fat one ,weighed at home, went 5 lb. 6 oz. One measure of the action was that we were almost out of bait by noon...... and had to call up Enticer to help us stay another couple of hours! Of course the tide then changed and fishing slowed ............ or was it the arrival of the othe boat ?? Cracking day and what a start to OotB's catching log !! Thanks again Adam, super day, great company ...... and a fishbox full to supply the Gastronaught's kitchen for a week or so . Alun.
Newboy
Good reports guys, not the best of fishing but it's still March and bream has started to show.
pegleg
Well done Guys. With good reports like that it makes me even keener to get out there and catch some myself. Jas
alun j.
What do you mean Kam? It was a cracking day's fishing; it was just the weather that was 'snotty' and stopped us gopng where we'd planned. We probably would have fared less well out [ judging on past results!]. So we were chuffed ! Alun.
Mike Fox
Excellent reports chaps - well done. Good to hear the fish are here and feeding. Am still amazed there's bream around...in March! Mike
Coddy
I was informed on Friday that to fish the Shambles you do need clear water for it to fish at its best. Stormy state and cloudy water and you may well waste your time! Coddy
Newboy
Sorry, I meant it didn't happen the way you wanted , ie, plaice.
Adam F
I was informed on Friday that to fish the Shambles you do need clear water for it to fish at its best. I see the theory Coddy, but the worst fishing last year was when the water was gin clear! I think that a little bit of algae bloom is good so slightly greenish but pretty clear is ok, muddy and stormy is not so good.
alun j.
water looked good yesterday in terms of colour....... just too bumpy and white on surface!!
Sinbad
Our day on Enticer was also bumpy and white.. but many thanks to Gordon for a great days company on a well sorted and stable fishing platform.. even when beam onto the wind 2 miles out... Hopefully we can get out mid-week sometime on Imagine.. and compare performance- I've just got a reel to re-build after it came apart in the rod rests when bumping out to the mark. Wasnt really a day for photos, but managed to take a few snaps coming in.. altogether a great day to be out, and a few fish even though not the range of species on OOTB (wrasse, a nice thorny to Gordon, LSDs (lots), and a spider crab.) Nice to see the bream at last and the bass on OOTB Paul Edited March 25, 2007 by Sinbad
