Member Removed
Hi, I'm still new to the waters and fish out of Christchurch, so still exploring different areas and having fun doing it! Out of interest I know most members tend to target certain fish.. i gather bream is popular at the moment , but I would be interested to hear if members have caught any of the more unusual or unexpected speices of fish from the area in general as i'am also interested in the type of diversity of fish that appear in the area. Was out yesterday exploring Xchurch ledge and caught pollock, garfish, wrasse - no bream - but was still a great day out. Cheers CharlieH
TomBettle
Hi Charlie I had heard you were out and about Glad you had a good day. Some interesting species known to visit the bay from time to time include trigger fish. In addition, Thresher Sharks pass through in not insignificant numbers along with the more common Porbeagle and further offshore Mako shark are VERY occasionally encountered. Although still to be hooked on rod and line, it is fairly well documented that we also get the off Tuna of several species (mainly Bonito or Albacore) coming through the bay, probably chasing mackerel shoals. Who knows what else is lurking down there.....? Tom
