DommyBoy Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Well guys, after Dan's session on the river last week fishing from the boat, when he winched the boat back on the trailor he managed to snap the winch cord (lucklily it was when the boat was right at the top of the trailor). Where is the best and cheapest place to get a new cord from and how much? Dom Quote
Wedger Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 I would suggest the strop off a small rachet strap. Strong a heck and cheap as you like. Quote
Maverick Martin Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Try Ambrowe trailers 165A Barrack Road Christchurch tel: 01202 479259 Martin Quote

Afishionado Posted July 5, 2007 Report Posted July 5, 2007 Well guys, after Dan's session on the river last week fishing from the boat, when he winched the boat back on the trailor he managed to snap the winch cord (lucklily it was when the boat was right at the top of the trailor). Where is the best and cheapest place to get a new cord from and how much? Dom I have a brand new winch with steel cable for Quote
DommyBoy Posted July 5, 2007 Author Report Posted July 5, 2007 Cheers guys, Mike ill check the price tomorrow and mayeb take you up on the offer as our winch is a bit ropy anyway! Ill let you know tomorrow mate, Dom Quote
Newboy Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 Even if you get the winch from Mike, do change the cable to strap. When cable goes, you tend to know about it and it can happen quite fast. Quote
Adam F Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 Kam is right. Wire straps go bang when they break and have a re-coil action - believe me, you dont want to be near this, a steel cable under tension snapping. Webbing is so much safter if it breaks they then to go slowely, so you can see the tear / damage, and even when they do go it is pretty unspectacular and it doesnt re-coil. Adam Quote
DommyBoy Posted July 6, 2007 Author Report Posted July 6, 2007 Cheers guys, i will call Ambrose today and see what they say. Cord not wire then! Quote
Afishionado Posted July 6, 2007 Report Posted July 6, 2007 Cheers guys, i will call Ambrose today and see what they say. Cord not wire then! Dommy have a look at # 260135360958 on ebay, this stuff is ideal and I have used it's like before. Stitching in loops can be done by hand or any shoe repairer. However as the wire on my winch is brand spanking, logic says that certainly for a year or two you need not worry about it snapping. But when it needs replacing webbing is the way to go. Gnasher Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 mike, getting the winch off you could be an option depending on where you are. Were in New Milton so if you are to far than grabbing something of ebay may be easier. Dom works in Bmth so he may be able to meet you if you arn't to far from him. Quote
Afishionado Posted July 7, 2007 Report Posted July 7, 2007 I live in Kinson mate. But I am sure we can arrange to meet up somwher in or around B'mth. PM me with a phone number and a time and we can talk. Mad Mike Quote
DommyBoy Posted July 10, 2007 Author Report Posted July 10, 2007 Thanks Mike, i will fit it tonight. Dom Quote
Swainiac Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Dan/Dom......be mindfull that cable can and does fray, leaving lethal splines of cable that really gets into your fingers!!!! From personal experience with tree winching............use straps. Salt water also corodes steel cable...nylon strap doesnt rust. And you really have to stuff loads of grease across ne cable...it soaks it up like nobody's buisiness! Rich Quote
