Some of you may know that Motorboat & Yachting journalist, Lester McCarthy, took part in the recent open competition.

Hi Tom

 

That a great write up for the event and the Club, especially written as it is from someone outside the Club.

 

and the chance to view the pictures taken is great PR.

 

One very little thing if this has not yet gone to print would be get the Clubs name right, the initials are correct but in the text the name is slightly wrong.

I think it is.

Lester is a decent chap. Sure he spends most of his working life aboard multi million pound gin palaces, but think he was surprised by the number of guys at the registration.

...bleeding freezing, still dark, not much pros[pect of catching, but loads of people and laods of boats lined up.

Nice write up indeed and the part I was particularily pleased with was :-

 

"I discovered the club listening to BBC Radio Solent, which was promoting the previous year's event and the numbers of boats taking part seemed vast. "

 

and

 

"The club has one of the best websites for clubs like this; you can find all types of interesting stuff such as where all the big fish are, who is going fishing where and when or hits and tips on tackle and bait. "

I liked this bit

 

"Of the 103 entered in the competition most caught fish but this is a conservation-minded event and fish can only be weighed in if they are bigger than 50% of the local specimen size

I was not amused by this, though sadly true!: "Rob Francis got lucky with a flounder of 3lb 3oz....".

 

Liked this bit: "cleaned up the big prizes." - I'm still spending it! Though the credit card bill is in from the Post Xmas sales!

Thanks for those that have complimented me, but I haven't really had much to do with it other than persuading a mag that doesn't do fishing to do fishing.
