Paul D
Apparently a club member saw one of these at the Netley Boat jumble and thought club members might be interested. The link to their website is here :- Solent Fisher Looks interesting ( and a superb choice of engine I have to say ). Appears to be a Wilson Flyer ? Jim
What a good little first boat. Light weight. No need for Brakes on the Trailer. Should be easy to launch / retrieve. Cathedral hulls do tend to bang a lot if there are any waves though. And yes .................... E Tec Ahhhhhhhhhh ! Jim
Gnasher
what a great little package, and what a price! I actually love the catherdral hull. It provides such a safe fishing platform for a small boat. It looks like an updated version of Gnasher, my old Dori Capri 15.
Jim
Dan, I'm Sure I used to have the same model. Good little boat, But what a bang over the waves.. I have seen photos of Gnasher. I'll dig some pictures out of my old boat. Jim
Member Removed
Hi All Thanks Paul for allowing us some coverage. Just to clarify, the Solent Fisher is 17 ft long, has 60 sq foot of cockpit space which is huge for a boat of this size. Hull weight is aprox 350 / 400 kg (plus engine) which gives great performance and easy planing even with a 40 HP, any choice of engine can be fitted, the Susuki Four Stroke EFI is my personal choice, a superb engine available at a similar price to the E-Tec. It can also now be supplied as an open med style boat offering even more fishing space , new pictures available of this model can be seen at: http://www.solentfisher.co.uk/ The hull actually has a very good front V section with softening spray rails and is not a traditional flat dory hull at all, this can be seen from the gallery pictures. So combined with its length, this will be able to comfortably cope with most force 3 to 4 coastal conditions when planing at a sensible speed. This hull shape does have the advantage of being able to throttle back and remain on the plane at quite low speeds if needed if the wave chop builds up a bit. With most fishing done at anchor or drifting, it does offer a superb stable and large fishing space for a boat of this size and its cost ! The boat is superbly built by Solent Ribs Ltd who have an envious reputation for building high quality bespoke ribs. Engines are supplied and fitted by the sister company Fairweather Marine Ltd who are Hampshires best known outboard service centre and again have a reputation for excellent service. Thanks again

TomBettle
Phil Just a question: I see in the video that the fuel tank fits perfectly in the little well at the transom. Was this designed for that purpose? Thanks Tom
Member Removed
Hi Because of the angle and shape of the engine splash well , a standard plastic 22l fuel tank will fit under the engine splash well ( the opposite side of the battery ) when the tank is positioned sideways. So the hull is supplied with tank retaining straps for the tank to be placed sideways on the opposite side to battery. Picture 11 in the gallery on the website shows the tank correctly fitted in the standard position strapped sideways. Many people would want to run twin tanks , so we did think it might be a good idea to make the cockpit drain well large enough to fit a plastic tank as another placement option. Customers who want to use a tank in the middle postion,we fit a removable tray which lifts the fuel tank up much higher in the cockpit drain well which keeps it well clear of any water. We wouldnt recommend placing a fuel tank in this position if an electrical bilge pump was fitted. Whilst the angle and width of the engine splash well is not perfect for storing fuel tanks, its width does give the option of running twin engines if required. With a 22 litre tank in flat steady planing conditions you can expect to get fuel economy of 1.5 to 2 miles per litre , so a single tank alone gives an excellent range. Also in reply to the previous post, we will gladly offer a Poole Angling Club member some form of discount as it would be great to get a boat down at your club. We can also make a package much cheaper by fitting a good quality used outboard to a new hull as an affordable option. Regards SML
Paul D
and in fairness, I was asked if it was OK to put a mention of this boat onto the website.
Jim
Easy to launch and retrieve I suppose, and no Brakes on the Trailer to get rusted up. Looks a good little boat. Jim

Member Removed
Jim If you can get it to plane around the M25 and park it at the London Boat Show I might take you up on your offer !
TomBettle
Jim If you can get it to plane around the M25 and park it at the London Boat Show I might take you up on your offer ! They are giving away space this year Phil. So many manufacturers not there and dealers going bust. Space is going to be very cheap, you should get yourself up there if you aren't already.
