Gnasher
after a nice lay in, i headed out to the needles at about 10.30am, complete with my dad and a work mate as crew. Everything was mirror calm, except monstor breakers on the shingles. Possible 8ft high and they could be seen from miles. Anyway, over the bridge and out towards the carpark to join 20 others boats packed into a tight area! Anyway, to cut a long story short, the fishing was pretty tough, and with no tide running we were always going to be scratching for a bite or two. In the end, we done ok, with plenty of whiting, a few doggies, half a dozen rays (spotties and thornies) and a nice eating size cod (small, but its my first needles cod of the winter!). I gutted the cod at sea, opened her up and split the 'bag' just to see what she had been eating and there was a few hardbacks, a hermit, and a bloody mars bar wrapper! A new cod bait? Anyway, glorious conditions, mirror calm water all day and pretty good fun (except the winch cable busting under load whilst getting the boat on the trailer (it can't all go to plan)! Danny p.s Check the sea state in pic! Lovely! Edited November 6, 2008 by Gnasher

alun j.
Well done Dan!....on the cod; it's encouraging to hear there are a few about. It makes it a hard call to choose, when there are bass about too! Perhaps the abundance of whiting will tip the balance?? Did you get many; any decent size?? Last week, we could find any on last winter's productive area! Now, it looks like the weather takes over and it will be floundering only for foreseeable week? Alun. Gnasher
Alun, We could have as many whiting as we wanted (but i gave up after an hour as i dont get a kick out of whiting bashing). We had plenty of fish around the 2lb mark (comming up with double and treble shots). Baited feathers with launce was the killer. Suprisingly though, we never had a single pout! Another strange thing was the cod came up with a doggie on the same pennel. I have had plenty of double shots of dogs on a pennel, but a cod and dog was a first.
