Barney Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) Wrap up warm if your out tomorrow. That wind was bitterly cold out there today. Just one cod on board today and not alot else very slow all day. Ill be out again tomorrow looking for that monster cod. I hope the wind drops off compared with today. it was abit uncomfortable at times. I decided that the grinch should stay on the mooring and opted for a charter boat instead. 38ft, warm dry cab, tea/coffee on tap, microwave and toilet or a warrior 165. I love my boat but itwasnt a hard choice. Edited December 29, 2008 by Barney Quote

A 1 in 7 chance of landing a fish and then they aren't very big? Sorry to sound negative, but considering it's brass monkies out there you'd hope for better odds? Bah Humbug and Happy New Year Quote

gaffa Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Might be worth reporting those stats to the EU re the proposed Recreational Sea Angling Fish quotas The figures speak for themselves "Inshore Fishing is Rubbish!!"......compared to when I were a Lad.......... Mind You that was 45 years ago and where I fished there was absolutely NO inshore commercial trawling Peteg Quote
Adam F Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I also agree. I'm surprised after the reports we have been having of 3 or 4 fish a trip, mind you, today was even slower - didnt hear a single cod over the radio and all we had was a few doggies. Yes - it was chuffin cold! Quote
great white Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 It looks like the season started with a lot of promise and boats getting reasonable numbers of fish however it now looks only slightly above average for the past few winters. If my memory is right, I think only 9 cod were weighed in last year. Lets hope that a few bigger fish are about after Christmas festivities die down, If not we will head further south for the mackeral and perhaps an eel or two Tight lines and a Happy New Year Charlie Quote
Neal Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 I think you also have to remember that it was easterlies all day............ When the wind is from the east... the fish bite least Maybe an old wives tale but I am certain that it holds very true for fishing in this area. We had a whiting of 3lb3oz on the boat but not much else. Oh well, there is always next year. Happy New Year folks..........have a good one Neal Quote
Barney Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 (edited) We went south of the needles and had 3 cod and 3 whiting on the boat. 2 just under 9lb and 1 at 5lb Very cold easterly wind but quite a pleasent day out. Monday was even colder and a lot rougher only one cod 9.5lb on poole spoil grounds Edited December 31, 2008 by Barney Quote
Fugazi Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 We had a great days fishing in the mountains on Tuesday, I prepared and cooked the trout I caught for dinner tonight. I was really suprised at how reddish pink the meat was and the superb taste, nothing like the last one I caught at a trout farm. That only tasted of mud and put me right off trout for years, but after this and trying some of Wedgers smoked trout I think I could get into this trout fishing lark. Weather here is the coldest its been for 20 years, only reached 18C today and that's the best we've had since boxing day. Gordon H Quote
