Adam F
I would love to head over for 4 days/nights, but may have a problem with work and with FPO as 1st is my birthday So, as this is still a way off, we have the option of doing the 2nd - 5th? This still takes in the BH Monday, but just slides it one day??

duncan
looks like I logged on just in time........ weather (and a whole lot more permitting) I sould make it I don't tend to stop on the way over or back, except when I see a large mackerel schoal on the way over and I'm easy on when and (overnight) where. One night we just slung the hook amongst the reefs to the West of Alderney Much prefer to travel in decent conditions. This was heading back one time - Alderney's the bit in the distance.... but it's always been fun even if the fishing can be a little more like hard works at times than people think... Fingers crossed

Sinbad
Im very tempted to add my name to the list as able crew, as I have perpetual Fridays off and the Monday is a BH... Although I wasnt planning on taking Imagine.. Could anyone say roughly how much fuel and roughly how much accomodation costs (excluding beer and food) 100 litres fuel per head ? 100 on accomodation ? 50 on skippers taxes? Paul
Maverick Martin
Paul Fuel is a difficult one and will depend on each individual boat and the activities planned ie drifting wrecks, bank fishing, toping, breaming etc as each has different fuel usage. However in the past our usage on AWOL has been around 300-450 litres. It really does depend on what kind of fishing is undertaken. Accommodation is/was around
Adam F
Martins comments are pretty accurate. I'd budget

Could anyone say roughly how much fuel and roughly how much accomodation costs (excluding beer and food) 100 litres fuel per head ? 100 on accomodation ? 50 on skippers taxes? Paul It's an extremely difficult one to call because of a number of quite variable factors - Whilst a basic 3 day trip will see fuel usage on 'our boats' of between 300 and 500 litres you can actually clock up a huge number of engine hours if you take things 'seriously' (over the last 3 years Phaeton's done 3 trips where we didn't get of the boat once and fished every hour the sun was up - and none of the fishing was at anchor!). I personally subscribe to the theory that such hours are more beneficial that costly on our boats but others may not. Anyhow 30 engine hours isn't unusual over 4 days. Accomadation and food is a total variable - some will only drink the best Chablis with their pan fried brill, and aged Congnac before going below; others have been known to survive the whole trip on bottled water.....overall the only issue that ever seems to be a problem here is when there are mixed views on actually going out and to where (budget wise) or when the skipper finds the crew have finished the congnac whilst celebrating their catch during the day! Overnight berthing costs have been constant in both Braye and St PP at
Tomo
After following this thread can't resist the temptation of taking Just Purfick...so count me in.....already have crew......but may be able to take 1 more.....had my PB bass there last year Tomo
great white
Duncan, Nice to read your comments on here again matey Your experiance of these trips is valuable to all. I think this year many will wish to go and I hope we all get there at some time, but Duncans words are wise, please be aware that the enjoyment is also balanced with effort and long days on the rods and hours at sea. A good forcast, safe boats, keen crews and sense of humour are probably far more essential than a well filled wallet. Costs incurred last year were food/refreshments carried onboard, fuel burnt, socialising ashore in the evenings, berthing fees. water taxi's and of course for those living ashore accomadation. Costs somewhere between Paul and Adams at a guess Charlie
great white
Hi All I have just had a phone conversation with one of the new owners of Mainbrayce Ltd on Alderney. They are tendering for various services in Alderney Harbour today, and are looking to keep the prices very competitive. Moorings may go up a bit but the lower prices for water taxi, chandelery and fuel should compensate He is also going to look into a group reduction for moorings and the water taxi if the weather allows us to get there with a few boats as last year. a special PBSBAC price sounds good to me He also reminds me that they can offer chandelery services and can order items in advance that could be collected when we arrive VAT free. I am sure Mark at Alderney Angling would be more than happy to do the same for tackle. I will not be at work for a few days to get an update, but will post prices on here when I get them. Leave me to try and get the group prices and concessions as that is a big part of my job. The good new is that their current price for Diesel is

great white
More to look at the skills of the late night Inflatable drivers. and/or to see how many beers Dean can drink on the back of AWOL.
Paul D
Charlie, Do they do petrol as well ? - If so what is their price ( Just thinking of the refuelling of Just Purfick ).
Maverick Martin
Paul i belive there is no alongside petrol facility so refueling will have to be done via jerry cans and the nearest garage. Might be a job for the local taxi or maybe Mark @ Alderney angling could help out? Martin
Adam F
Martin is correct, you'll need to jerry can it from the local petrol station. TBH it's going to be possible but hard work... it's not going to be the odd 25 ltrs is it? After a run across the channel and a day's fishing I'd gues you'll need at least 100 ltrs. That has to be carried, taxi, and then transported back across the harbour and decanted on the water. Needs some thought - as said, Mark will offer advice - he runs petrol in his Raider. Alternative is Guernsey, as they have Petrol in the marina, but as stated it's further on still. People also need to start thinking of accomidation as Mark can only take 5. TomBettle
On the off chance... If anyone fancies one extra day in Alderney (a free day, but you need to cover accomodation), I may be looking for two, maybe three crew to join me in a Motorboats Monthly review of the awesome Pursuit Powerboats (you may have seen the smaller of the two reviewed in BFM recently). Whilst we are in Alderney, they are at the Jersey Boat Show and plan to travel back on the Tuesday. I may be joining them on the run back to review the two boats and take part in a spot of wrecking on the way. They are stunning US style sportsfishers, gorgeous and powerful. The review will be "cruising" based, but they are angling boats so we will fish from them and spend the day as we would normally on the run back. It's all up in the air at the moment, but as likely to happen as any other plan is within the marine industry! PM me if you may fancy "jumping ship" from your planned ride home. It would mean a day of rest (or whatever) in Alderney on the Monday as we'll have no boat to play on. Tom
