Adam F
They look reasonably big when we are planning? Suit me just fine - but maybe not those who want to fish for eels??
great white
Hi Adam  Not sure if I am reading them wrong but Poole tide tables are showing neap tides for 1st May bank holiday.  We are looking at eeling on the way over on the 1st, not sure what time slack is mid channel but the size of tides certainly look better than last week.  Has anyone got a program on their PC that could give times of slack water on that weekend?  Cheers Charlie
Adam F
Well just looking at the comparative sizes - 1st is 1.7 - 5.07 and the smaller tides seem to be circa 2m - 4m??
great white
Hi Adam  I know its not the smallest neap, but the springs in april show 0.8-6.2 so I believe it is much better than that and last year.  Charlie
TomBettle
Has anyone got a program on their PC that could give times of slack water on that weekend? Cheers Charlie  Around 09:30 and 15:30 Charlie.  I have not worked out if that is GMT yet!  The 09:30 slack will have flood tide right the way through the main part of the day. This means we'll be punching it unless we leave really early or head south south east and fish marks some distance away from the nice straight line route over. great white
Thanks Tom  A bit simular to last year then, I had a quick look at Christmas and had it about that.  sounds like an early start if we want to be there by 0830 Charlie Edited March 8, 2009 by great white
Adam F
Is that 9.30 slack mid-channel or Alderney? Â Not fussed about anchoring so would be looking at leaving circa 7am? Â 8 weeks to go!
TomBettle
Is that 9.30 slack mid-channel or Alderney? Not fussed about anchoring so would be looking at leaving circa 7am?  8 weeks to go! As far as we are concerned (our part of the channel), right the way across.  If you wanted to leave at dawn and arrive Alderney for the slack you could get a full day working the banks or drop in this side for a spot of Bream and / or Tope sport before a relatively early finish. alun j.
Adam, Â I'd be up for going early [really early!!] if it meant a flatter sea.. and more fishing on the other side! Â Alun.
great white
If weather allows a full 4 day trip we intend to anchor mid channel on day 1  which direction we head off in will probably be decided by the weather more than just tide. No doubt we will have a couple of options.  Main plan straight to mid channel, bait fish then anchor ether side of slack  Then on to look at a couple of marks enroute to the islands.  Hopefully PM will see us anchored near the island   Day two and three on the banks [Mostly ]

Paul D
I am sure Tomo will post but my understanding is that Just Purfick will be leaving really early to get out of Christchurch and we will be looking for one club boat at least to buddy up with us for the crossing ( esp. being we are the smallest boat going ). Â Anyone offering ? Â
Adam F
Long range outlook for May: Â May Temperature: Above average Precipitation: Slightly below average The first half of the month is expected to bring spells of dry and increasingly warm conditions to much of the country, although in northern areas it may well remain less settled and cooler with showers or longer outbreaks of rain at times. The second half of the month should see temperatures continuing above average with some significant warmth at times. Across much of the country it may turn rather unsettled at times with heavy showery rain developing widely, although a reasonable amount of dry, sunny and warm weather is still expected. Forecast Issued 01/03/2009 Â Pretty much hedges it's bets!... Â Â Â
Wight Magic
i would like to leave early as long as i can get under the bridge and buddy up with others cheers Dave
duncan
great to see the enthusiasm and planning..... Â Adam's long range forecast seems to suggest that they think normal prevailing conditions for the period - so the flooding tide and likely SW breeze will work together to our benefit. If these are the conditions then the good bit is that what you get off Durlston for the first few miles should be the worst of it ie it shouldn't get any worse as you head over. Â I am still a long way from being prepared at all - suspect I might have a fair bit to do
great white
Hi Duncan  Nice to hear from you and it will be great if you can get all in order to come accross  I am sure all will be planning more and more as it approaches, can I suggest pooling ideas before or after the next meeting, as we only have one meeting before the trip.  What do others think?? Adam F
An update on who is going would be helpful, as it is now getting near the time when we need to plan leaving times etc. Â If I start a new list then people can reconfim as we had quite alot of interest early on: Â 1.)
