charlieannear
Hi All Just got my laptop back from a warranty repair and it's come back with fresh install of Vista on it- consequently it's taken me a while to get things back to the way they were... Anyway, I have a problem which some of the more technical minded amongst you might be able to help me with. They key in between the z and the shift should give me backslash or pipe, instead it gives me hash or tilda (# or ~). The key that should give these characters is next to the return key, and it still gives the expected characters. Currently if I want to type a backslah or a pipe I have to use the on-screen keyboard found with in accessibility options (like this \ or |). Using the on-screen keyboard I have options on how many keys to have- from this I think my laptop currently thinks it has a 101 key keyboard when it should realie that it's got a 102 key keyboard. Anyway, does anyone have any ideas how I can remedy this please? Thanks, C.
Paul D
Into Control Panel and select Regional and language options From the window select "Keyboard and Languages" Select "Change Keyboard" Ensure you have English ( United Kingdom) - United Kingdom as the default input language and Installed services has EN Engligh ( United Kingdom ). If not then add it and set it as the default.
charlieannear
Thanks for responding quickly Paul I should have said I'd set all the regional settings... Incidentally if I select add a keyboard, and select the 'show more' list of English (UK) keyboards then select either the normal or extended UK one and select preview- both do not show a key between the shift and the z. Tried same on mine an it also does not show a key between the Shift and the Z. But of course my keyboard has one and works ||||||\\\\\\\\||||||| So the fact that the key does not show on the preview is irrelevant. Been trying regional settings and the US layout has the \| characters on both the hash and tilde keys as well as the normal key. - No pound sign. switching back to English layout and I get keyboard correctly. Paul D
In fact I have been trying my hardest to get the same "problem" you have and to no avail. I have tried chaing the driver for my keyboard from standard PS2 to Enhanced. What driver is your laptop using ? ( Check in Control Panel / Device manager / keyboards ). charlieannear
Hi Paul I've been trying to sort it out by swapping between US and UK keyboards, but it's as if whichever one I choose doesn't apply properly. I seem to get a mixture of the 2 keyboards, or it says I've selected US but it gives me mostly UK keys or vice versa. After quite a few swaps I've got it back to where it was, with all of the keys giving the correct characters except for the one next to z! Also tried swapping between UK and UK Extended, but no joy. Keyboard Driver is ATK, 24/01/2007, 1.0.0.0 Tried to update the driver but it seems to be the latest.
