Surprise Catch !

After a tentative plan to go to The Rips plan B was Tope and get a few more

species on the list.A beautiful morning with a bit of Easterly we decided to go

West to one of our frequent marks, and after a struggle to catch some mackerel

we put the hook in and fished the last hour of the ebb.Sport was slow and I was

1st in with a Tope in the mid twenties . Stuart followed with a Conger of about

the same size.Slack water produced the smallest conger I've seen ,plus the

compulsory LSD. The flood saw a 4 more Tope up to about 20lb come to the boat

and the bites got less as the flood increased.

We were on the verge of lifting the hook , when Stu had a few knocks.

Pulling into the bite there was no expected run or shaking of the head ,just a

dead weight with the pushing tide to help . After about 10 minutes I saw what

I thought was a Skate and shouted so , which Stu replied it was a Big Turbot.

Diving into the cockpit I retrieved a large landing net I bought in Alderney.

After a few anxious moments I managed to fit the handle a slip it under .

We just could not believe our eyes. Placing in the sling she pulled the scales down

between 22lb 4oz and 21lb 12oz , we have taken it a the lesser. After taking the

statuary pics Stuart returned for her/him to spawn another day ! What a cracking

fish!!

Well done Stuart..........you are getting some superb fish !!

This 'special' one puts you up on the trophy board.

I wish we had more of these [albeit much smaller] in waters close to home!!

Congrats.,

Alun.

Well Done Guys

A great fish to end the day [or any Day], I can just imagine the excitement of trying to get the net together with the fish next to the boat.

Well done Stu on taking the Club Turbot record, [and to the skipper of course] Will was certainly chuffed on the phone when I told him it had broken the record.

Good effort for putting it back to carry on breeding, especially as you or Dad probably have more ways of cooking such a fish than most.

Looking forward to seeing the pics biggrin.gif
