Freddie
Tried my luck in Lake Geneva this week with my young son's telescopic rod. Managed to get it through the tight security of Terminal 5 LHR with a few spinners & small plugs. Unfortunately, it was a little too warm & the water too clear so did not manage to tempt a perch or pike to have a nibble. Does anyone know what the fishing is like in lakes Geneva or Zurich? Going to try my luck in Newcastle on Sat so hope my luck changes for the better. Caught some codling & flatties last time I was there. Sinbad
Hi Freddie, I used to go out to Geneva Mon-Fri, every week. There are certainly large quantities of fish in the lake, but the Gin like waters and summer heat, can make shore angling quite difficult at times. However we found the early morning and evening the best times (i.e after work!!!!) around the stone harbours and other features. Because we were there every week, we bought a permit/licence - what a timewasting, bureaucratic and expensive exercise it was...We fished within the canton of Vaud, but other cantons will have their own rules about where you can fish. We were in a hotel along the northern side, with a fast stream running down to the lake. Here I had my PB Chub of 7lbs, but many of similar size. Also in the lake there are huge shoals of massive dustbin lid size bream, which make good fun on a telescopic rod!! Good luck. Paul
Freddie
Thanks for that Paul I will keep trying & may even take some of my garden worms with me in my hand baggage. Wonder what BAA security will say about them? In fact I am off to Zurich for two nights soon, so will have a fish in that lake. By the way, I caught a small brown trout in the river Weir in Durham yesterday on maggots. Lovely fast flowing river with all sort of sports fish including salmon. I will definitely check beforehand...... just in case you get landed with a big fine.
Sinbad
Freddie, I've been through terminal 1 with a pint of maggots before now - even though they are 90% liquid Oh and I forgot to mention, they seem to be obsessed with the trout and parr species, hence the steep prices of their fishing licences. No one seems to target the Bream / Chub. There's plenty of trout in the river and lakes though. Paul
Neal
If you want worms - rather than carry them through customs etc Find a patch of grass and pour (warm) soapy water on it and I belive the worms will all come to the surface.........think I read / heard that somewhere! It's easier to get hold of washing up liquid and less likely to fined or get bumped off a plane! Neal
Jim
I heard that one too Neal. But I suppose it'll make the worms taste like washing up liquid, so you'll only catch the females. Jim
