niggle
Hi all I have a HDS fishfinder which I need to update to run my new toy a sidescan on it but the software needs to be 2.5 or later, mine is 1.5,but does not have a SD card slot.If any member has a hds plotter which takes a SD card they can update and if I link mine to theirs via ethernet cable then that will update mine.Any help would be great otherwise I`ll have to send to Navico Thanks for any help guys Nige
duncan
I'm assuming you have the HDS-5x unit - the only sonar only unit? Page 4 of the operations manual suggests that it does have a card door (underneath the designation) but I guess from your comment above that this is incorrect. This is a surprising ommission as recording sonar data for review on a computer later is a great Lowrance feature! Hmm - page 87 spec claims 2 SD slots......and page 49 discusses saving files to SD/MMC Are you sure you don't have them!?! Page 95 on Updating the Software is useless and refers you to the Lowrance web site...which has the download but nothing on what to do if you don't have a card slot! niggle
Most definately does not have slot hence reason/info on updates on web about linking to plotter that does via ethernet Nige
Rob
Which version \ model di dyou buy? It sounds to me like you have bought an add-on unit and not a full system if it has no SD slot. Did you get it in the UK? Rob
niggle
Rob I bought the sonar only unit HDS 5x.Been talking to mate in Southampton who will link up or Rob skipper of Shogun has HDS units. But I may update and sell unit and upgrade to a 8 or 10 inch screen again a Hds unit Nige
duncan
As Rob asks - which model? Don't see any benefit in linking model to model - better off connecting the unit to your computer direct but I'm unaware of a software update application dedicated to that functionality. Bob F
As with Duncan, I'm totally confused, all the HDS 5 models should have a memory card slot. Can you take a photo of your unit to show us the bottom right hand corner? Are you sure the little panel does not come off? Attached is the picture of where the SD slot should be. Bob F
OK, Nige. Strange decision by Lowrance, but maybe it's for the UK market to keep the cost down. Not able to help in that case. Simon's pretty good on the Lowrance stuff so maybe he has some ideas. cheers BF

wotu2uk
Navico phoned me at 09:15 this morning, agreed that there is a windows 7 problem, but said that they believe the number of people with Win7 is insignificant (??????). Promised to mail me an SD card with update this am. John
great white
I have found Navico useful like that, they gave me an SD update card at one of the boatshow for my Lowrance. It worked a treat but reset the unit to factory settings, so all the custom settings I use had to be done again. I did not check until my next trip, and thought the unit had packed up initially. then had to reset a few things underway They are much more useful than Lowrance themselves, who I have contacted about the differances to using the sets in USA to using them in europe. ie background maps and the Mapcreate software. They do not seem bothered at all. Charlie
Jim
Gary, I can't collect my mail until tonight. Charlie, When I had a problem with my Lowrance GPS. Warrior put me in touch with the area rep. I think his name is Mike Hall. He was fantastic so I'm surprised that Lowrance themselves were not. Oh Well ! Can't win every time. great white
Hi Jim I would be surprised if the area rep was not from Navico, and my dealings with them have been very good. The problem comes when emailing Lowrance themselves in teh states. I get a reply but not a helpfull one. Ie, recently read on a forum that you can use the emulator from Lowrance website and an MMC reader connected to a PC to view chart info and set waypoints etc on Mapcreate. I have all the required components so thought I would ask Lowrance, explaining that all I wanted to do was have more Master Map detail at home when passage planning. A very cival response, that said it can not be done. When asked why in UK we do not have background detail on Mapcreate [as they do in the states], again no interest from Lowrance. Its usable but could be better. Charlie
Jim
Charlie, It's not important. But they're not the people I dealt with. This guy was based in cornwall. It seems that Lowrance need lessons in Customer Aftercare, but the dealerships are very good. Cheers. Jim
