Maybe it was a bigger version of one of these Martin....caught in the harbour today.

Death Trap, please do not paint all IFCA's with the same brush as Cornwall. I am the secretary of the Poole & District Sea Anglers Association which represents the majority of angling clubs in Poole, Bournemouth & Christchurch both shore and boat anglers. We have very good contacts within Southern IFCA and whilst I would agree that in the past they have not been helpful towards recreational anglers this has recently changed, so much so that we now have very experienced anglers sitting on various committees both in RSA's and charter boat skippers who are making a difference. PBSBAC has a representative who attends some of these meetings and I am sure he represents both the club and other anglers in the best way he can. I agree Southern IFCA are not perfect (lol) but by having constructive discussions with SIFCA we are becoming a force to deal with but like always it needs anglers to support and put pressure on those people to make them understand RSA's can not be ignored, unfortunately nationally, many anglers can not be bothered to support or take action when asked, you just got to look at the numbers of Sea anglers who are in the AT! Is it me or there seems to be lot more codlings being caught than previous years?

sorry, wasn't trying to tar anyone, with any brushes! I started going fishing with my dad when i was 5, and i really value access to a protected natural world. I find it frustrating to see the increasing de-regulation of rivers and marine environment and cuts to the national bodies tasked with monitoring and policing them. It shouldn't be this way.

Rob today was the only day Dean and I could get out so today it was, the downside being we ended up fishing the harbour. We had mackerel and bass so not a blank. I did loose a very good fish. First bite and my rod was going mental picked it up and could feel the weight of a good fish which was also taking line then gone. Reeled in only to find my 2/0 hook had partially straightened out which obviously allowed the fish to bounce off, I would have loved to have seen what it was or rather what size bass it was. I will also stop buying cheap hooks Never mind we had the cobwebs blown away and we weren't at work
