Hoping to get out this Sunday for a few hours. If anyone else is out will be on Ch 6/16 as usual. Hope there are still a few Winter Species about.

I was out today....plenty of whiting still there ...but they are getting smaller av. size....as usual. Probably be out Sunday as well...but forecast is a bit colder. Alun.

Practice casting on grass. Get a tennis ball and put a slit into it which will allow lead to be inserted. Cast will not become stuck on a grass surface and will allow you to improve your technique .

You can get casting practice weights. Which are basically a cue ball with an eye screwed into it. These fly well and don’t get bogged into the ground. Can also be used on the beach. You could go to your local open green space and (with caution) practise your casting with just a lead weight. It will give you the feel of the rods, and you won’t have to play catch up for distance once on the beach! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My 2001 first gen Mariner 115hp efi is still going strong although it has needed some expensive tlc over the last couple of years including a new high pressure fuel pump and regulator and a new trim motor. I try and keep the ol girl well serviced (as well as the motor) and she pushes my boat along at a respectable speed.(the motor not the ol girl) Holes Bay Marine previously supplied the motor to the previous owner of Reflections 2 and have carried out all the maintenance and servicing on it. It's a great motor and is performing better than ever. Your new motor will have all the design upgrades and should last longer than mine which is in its 20th year and still going strong. After much deliberation, I decided to stretch my budget and go for the Anyfish Anywhere range (thanks Neil), and have ordered the "Four and Bait" as a conti-capable rod with a bit more oomph, and a "Six and Bait" as a more powerful rod still that will perform well even without tournament-style capabilities. Both at 14 feet, and both ringed for fixed spool. The positive online reviews of both rods helped, plus I liked the fact they've proven themselves over the last decade, the build quality being that bit heavier, and they don't keep changing the range every 5 minutes. Sadly, I suspect I won't get a crack at the whiting with them, and might have to target the spring plaice and summer hounds when I first get a chance to use them, but that's ok, I suspect there will be ample opportunity this year. When I get the chance, I can fish one long one short, like Ohgreatone does, have the option of braid for bite sensitivity, can use them together, or pair them with an existing bass rod or conventional beachcaster depending on location and conditions.
