Flatfish Comp Reminder. July 3-4th Please register as usual, for those lucky ones going to Alderney, we are expecting new club records in the Turbot and Brill category, for those of us fishing out of Poole the Dabs are looking like favourites!!! Lets watch the weather and fingers crossed.

Only a quick report as I have a very busy day. Very enjoyable day out with one of the Jones boys yesterday, in this case Ian. We managed to find some mackerel but had trouble keeping them alive as they don't seem to like my American aerating bait tank, despite not engaging the aerator (which kills them in minutes) and changing the water regularly, I really must get a deck wash pump fitted so I can run a proper bait tank. However, we persevered and I did manage to snaffle a couple of nice bass, the biggest going 8lb 2oz when weighed at home at the end of a very long day. It will probably be a bit smaller when I remove the bloody great crab which can be easily felt in its belly, it's going to know it when it craps that lot out! Otherwise, a fairly uneventful day which left us unbothered by much else of note apart from a nice gurnard for Ian which will, perhaps, contribute to a nice fish stew. As it has done for the last two outings, a perfectly good forecast went windy and lumpy for the second half a the day which put the mockers on the plaice session, they don't like it up 'em Mr. Mainwaring. As seems to be usual, the day finished with me eating my take away Chez Burt, always fun. Now watching the weather for Alderney next week, everything crossed. Terry.

Competitions 2021 Next weekend sees the Flatfish Competition on 3-4th July August 14-15th Ray Comp September 11-12th Bass Comp It has been the strangest of years, let’s hopefully see these last competitions go forward well, and we can look forward to arranging a full schedule of Competitions for 2022. I’ve fished out of Southampton all my boating life, 13 years now. There are plenty of places to fish within half an hour from the marinas in Southampton waters. I’ve had all my best fish in the solent between Browndown and west lepe. It’s all about getting to know a new area, I’d rather fancy the challenge tbh if I were to relocate. Accommodation update, for those staying at Bonjour Guest House (Reel Magic and Tigerfish crews), Mel is doing takeaway breakfasts as she is unable to do 2mtr distancing in the dining room but be assured, it will not be a cheap option apparently. This actually suits me as this is what I usually do after cereal. I cannot confirm if Simerock are doing the same as I haven't managed to get hold of Gill yet, I will update when I do. Terry.

Nice bass, well done. Those unedibles may have been there for some time... My boat is fitted with a jabsco water puppy. Been going strong since 2006, can be left on running all day and often is. Water fills from the floor and exits from the top. It keeps everything alive. Alderney forecast is looking great, everything crossed it stays that way.

Couldn't agree more Kam. Southampton water would mean a long trip to the Solent and I've never had much luck catching there other than weed and a large stingray which I didn't manage to land. The Hamble Marinas are just Sooooo Expensive Haslar or Gosport Marinas would seem to be the most obvious location . I have only once fished a charter out of Gosport which turned out to be an all day and night affair for no fish. This was before the days of mobile phones and wife was not happy and worried sick as she thought I was due back at 5pm not the following 5am as it turned out. Skipper wanted to catch up on his sleep on board. If still boating I would prefer to stay in the Poole area but it is such a pain to get to sometimes and parking can be a nightmare.

Not really a great deal in the Solent. Sting rays down the west side. Small breams at sowley. Some good size bass in the deep hole near Hurst castle. Plenty of smaller bream just outside ryde. Further out you have the overfalls and utopia, nab tower. Even kingsmere rocks is reachable fairly quickly. If for fishing reason, I would consider premier or haslar marina in Gosport than Soton.

Rob, Mostly go solo so have no access to slave labour for all the skivvying jobs.😋 Cant put mine on my drive local by-law prevents it. No trailer anyway or car rated to tow it so I have to suck up the marina berthing costs. There are some benefits to being on the dry-stack though .......anodes last a few seasons and no need to anti-foul . F pontoon used to eat anodes for breakfast .😲

Looks like the ladies in the club are into the Tope. Not as big as Wendy’s but still nice for Bobi at 24lb 7oz .
