Oh what a lovely pair!!

I've spent the last couple of months tidying my boat up (new deck and bits n bobs) and will be putting everything back on it soon. My anchor retrieval rope was a big loop with knots and kinks all over (an accident waiting to happen really) so I decided to watch a "YouTube" video and have a go at splicing it. I know that self praise is no praise at all, but I think it's pretty good 👍🤣

Poole Bay Plaice Chase 2022 The kayak fishing competition returned for the eighth time , after a two years break, as the weather and sea conditions allowed it. Taking place from Sandbanks beach the kayak anglers set off onto fairly calm seas with light winds, although bitterly cold, in search of early Spring Plaice. Thirteen anglers chose their preferred technique, wether inshore, further out, drifting or anchored, and fish were soon being reported. Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club who facilitate the competition, had a volunteer support boat in attendance in case of any difficulties, and unfortunately an angler capsized and had to be assisted onto the boat and warmed up before being brought back to the shore with most of their equipment. Another rod and reel to Davey Jones. A great job by the support boat, Looby Four. After 5 hours all of the competitors had returned to shore for the measuring of the Plaice, with eight anglers offering a fish up. The winner was Stephen Henry, “Lureman” , a regular to this event, and his name will be added to the Cam Clearie Trophy that is on display in Poole Sea Angling Centre. A big well done to Lureman and all of the competitors and PBSBAC members in attendance. The Plaice Chase returns in 2023

I didn't even realise there was a pubic slip at Mudeford. Ill have a look. I must be honest, I quite like the engine getting a free flush on my way up Wareham River after every trip, and it also gives my fishing partner of the day plenty of time to give us a tidy up and wash down on the way back. so having the same at Christchurch is a bonus.

My dad was ex navy. He used to sit at home tying knots and splicing ropes just to keep his hand in. He will be turning in his urn at my poor attempts! 😊😊

I am so excited about getting out and about this year Im compiling a list of the slipways I can use to try to keep my fuel costs down a little while exploring some different spots. I was walking around Christchurch today and Wick looks like a candidate for my I.O.W trips. It mentions it can only be used at high water, does anyone have any experience of this slip? Id guess Id probably prefer to use it at smaller tides and get there very early. Whats it like in the summer? I know about the moving channel at Mudeford so would take extra care there. Any comments would be gratefully received..

I used Wick for years and always found it most hospitable with plenty of parking and quite enjoyed the ride down the river to the entrance. It has the added advantage of giving your engine a flush in fresh water. Watch the channel and yes, the entrance can be challenging but, during the summer, it is normally well and reliably marked. Alun is obviously the meister on the entrance and yes, he uses Mudeford slip which is only a few yards from the entrance. Terry.

Wick slip is best used on higher parts of the tide due to the fact it’s not a long slip and has a drop off if you go to far down it. It’s also surprising step and quite easy to light your tyres up if your boat is heavy. Alun uses the slip at Mudeford and would be able to advise on its use, and would save 20 minutes traveling through the harbour
