Hi Guys, Thankyou everyone for your thoughts and comments, all of which have been taken on board and discussed with the committee and club members, and really good to hear. Here are our thoughts: We want to encourage as many youngsters as possible, so it was discussed that non family members (anybody) could join in. Obviously with the correct parental/adult supervision. We would have an open fishing calendar in July, when junior members and new “ junior” members could fish as often as they can, and put forward their catches towards the junior July Competition. In August we would hold a one day Competition with perhaps a bbq and prize giving for the July and August Junior Competition. Those Juniors who are not already family members would be asked to pay a Poole Bay Junior Competition Membership of perhaps £2.00. They would receive a card for there Competition membership, perhaps a species identification card, some details of the club, and other fishing information. With this in mind, it would be nice to know which members might be able to offer their boats if we had a good take up for this Competition. Non of this is set in stone so we look forward to any other thoughts. Jerry

In 2022-23 there are 18 Junior members. I don’t have dates of birth for 4 of them so numbers could be less in 2023-24.

May I suggest before you start discussing the rules and regs (and who or who not is going to be charged to enter etc) that you see if there is enough club junior participants to make it viable for a comp. Brian used to publish a list of juniors who were part of the family membership group. Once that has been established, then you can evaluate whether the comp is viable with club junior numbers. And as I suspect that there may not be enough take up from club member's juniors, then open it up to non member juniors who are closely associated with the club (i.e club member's friends and relatives juniors) I personally agree not to charge an entry fee at all. If all the numbers stack up then a dedicated club member parent would need to take charge and organise the comp (like what happened in the past) as they have a vested interest for it's success. Speaking from experience, it does take a lot of organising, however if successful, it is very rewarding. PS - Unless I am mistaken, I believe the maximum age a junior could be was up to the age of 16 Years ????

Hi all We had very good fishing times with the Juniors comps many years before the thought of charging to enter would be ridiculously you only have to look at the numbers of boats in senior comps that struggle to get interest and that’s free to enter if there are none members that would like to fish then try and talk them in to becoming junior members on a reduced price then they could fish all year round with fuel and bait etc hitting very high prices i think it’s going to be hard, I hope not as I certainly enjoyed fishing with the keen kids good luck with all your thoughts and I hope it works if all goes well I’m happy to put a prize in 🎣
