Beware ! My brother was telling me a story the other day. He said he got a £200 fine for flicking Fag Ash out of his van window. NOT the Fag end! Fag ash ! ! I knew it wasn't the 1st of April so thought it was going to be a joke. But no !!!! So who gets fined for the Sandy Sahara rain we often get? So who gets fined for the Foxes & Gulls dragging rubbish out of the bins and then crapping all over the place? What about Cats going into other people's gardens for a crap? What about leaves falling off trees ? ? What about What about What about so many other things? As I used to smoke 100 per day imagine the fun I could have. I had to check it online and here's what I found . . . . . . . . "Yes, you can get fined for flicking cigarette ash in public places in the UK because local authorities classify smoking-related waste and residue as a criminal littering offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.The Rules on Smoking Residue and Litter Classification: Councils treat ash, cigarette butts, and filters as standard litter. Fixed Penalty Notices (FPN): Enforcement officers or council wardens can issue an on-the-spot fine (Fixed Penalty Notice) ranging from £65 up to £500 depending on local council guidelines. Court Prosecution: If you refuse to pay the fine or dispute it unsuccessfully in court, the maximum penalty can increase up to £2,500, and it may result in a criminal record." So you can go into any shop and walk out with just under £200 worth of stollen goods and nobody will touch you. You can fly tip mountains of waste and probably won't get caught but if you do it will be a very small fine compared to the money that's made from it. But don't you DARE flick a bit of Fag Ash out of your window or it'll cost you £200 (or £100 if you pay within a week) The fact that 20 fags is over £16 and it's nearly all tax and is just spending money for the government to give to (the needy) is beside the point. There !!! That's my rant for the day over and done with.

For those who may be interested, the Sea Angling magazine has run the feature on our day out with Dave Lewis, 5 pages in total with good PR for the club. I can’t add the feature because copy rights but make sure it’s the Sept edition if it’s of interest. A nice comment about the harbour along the bottom of the cover. 👍

A proud day for Jim. Nothing to do with boats! In 2023 I decided to carve Upton House into wood. I asked if I could fly my drone. Not a chance was the answer, Nesting birds & wildlife etc. So I tried many times to capture enough data with my phone to use Photogrammetry to create a digital model. Every attempt failed. In 2024 I asked again and showed my lack of progress and what I was trying to achieve. I explained that if it worked I would donate a carving to the park. I was given a very small time slot to fly. I captured 730 high res photos and stitched them together using Photogrammetry. I then had to clean up the model and remove all of the “fluff”. I used that to create a digital relief and then carved that into a lovely piece of wood that the park had given to me. It is now on display in the visitor centre.
