Reading some of the comments, all boat engine parts are expensive, Volvo do not hold the monopoly on that.
For someone reasonably mechanically minded servicing Volvo engines and legs is straightforward it's all in the standard manual supplied with the boat, no workshop manual required, and it saves a load of dosh. This is what I do but I also get one of the Volvo engineers to give the engines and legs a once over as they have second pair of more experienced eyes.
Fortunately Ropewalk don't mine me doing the servicing myself and fixing what I can and leaving them with anything I'm not confident about doing. This is not a plug for Ropewalk just saying cultivating a good relationship with a good servicing company you trust can be highly beneficial.
