Out of interest which DSLR have you bought? Bit expensive to take out in the boat though, isn't it? You're right about small point and shoot digi cams being no good in low light situations. Also red eye is a big issue as the flash is too close to the lens on these cameras.
You're better off spending a little bit more and buy a camera which doesn't use AA batteries as cameras tend to go through these at an alarming rate. More pixels doesn't necessarily equal a better picture. The experts say that if you have too many pixels on a small sensor the pictures become ' noisy.' This means they can be grainy. I think the limit is 4 million before this becomes an issue. I would check out this site before you buy. It's probably the best forum there is for photography.
clickety click
Simon.
ps. I personaly would go for the Canon Ixus range.
When bream fishing I always thought a fixed spool full of nylon was plenty good enough. Does everyone recommend using braid with a fixed spool; I thought the idea of braid was for deepish water in tide?
Paul, this may be one for you to answer:
When you look at the board statistic it states that on Sep.27 2004, 10:48pm there were 34 members online. I don't think we've been anywhere near that figure since I've been a member. What was happening at the time; site testing perhaps?
I think we should make an effort to beat this record if only to change the figures at the bottom of the page
Just used Google to find out a bit about the influence the dredging will have on the tidal flow in Poole harbour. Quite interesting if you like that sort of thing
5.4 Predicted effect of the proposed scheme on water levels and tidal currents
5.4.1 It is predicted that spring tide low water levels would be lowered by up to 20mm as a result
of the effect of the channel deepening on tidal propagation, resulting in the increased
exposure of between 2.9 and 11.7ha (measured at CD) of intertidal habitat at low water on
spring tides. These estimates represent the range of intertidal slopes in Poole Harbour
from which the change in areas was calculated (i.e. 1:50 to 1:200 slopes).
5.4.2 As regards the impact of the works on tidal currents within Poole Harbour, the following
conclusions were drawn:
You're right Mike; if I didn't already have antifouling on mine I wouldn't be redoing it every season. I know you can remove it but it sounds like a lot of hard work. Probably worth it in the long run though.
Tom,
I take it was you steaming up to Salterns at about 1550. I was going down the middle channel in the Sherwood. I did see a massive cloud on the water down towards Southbourne way as we went past North Haven. Was that snow or did you just miss it?
Simon.
Simon,
I must get to see your trailer sometime, as I need to get the rollers adjusted n mine to make retrieval a little easier.
Paul,
no problem, next time you're in Poole let me know and I'll let you have a look.
Kam,
10k would buy you a nice Orkney 520. Easy to launch and retrieve single handed and 21 knots with a 30hp Yammy loaded up. Slams a bit but don't they all.
Simon.
Some of them looked a bit like a toilet. I especially liked hte glow in the dark version; ideal for when you're trying to sneak in after one too many and don't want to put the light on.
