  1. Absolutely, but Barto said he's buying a new unit and surely it's less likely any of those will still use CF, which is a "dead" format to all intents now. I think new Garmin and Lowrance units (2 most likely options for a combined plotter/ff) all use SD cards. Duncan
  2. That's a CompactFlash format card Dave, not SD. Duncan
  3. Quiet day way out west too, but avoided any of the forecast showers. Leisurely start from West Bay just before 10 and on to drift a couple of nearby wrecks. First one zilch, the second a couple of plump pollack, no great size 4.5 and 6.5lb, but ok for the box. Bubblegum Redgill Evos again did the damage. As the wind got up we came back inshore, nothing but pout and more pout on the reefs.Spent the afternoon flattie hunting off West Bexington without a single bite, which was a real disappointment. Sea cut up rather snotty with the turn of the tide so we headed back about 5:30. Overall good crack and at least we didn't blank.
  4. No worries Dave - his loss I'm sure! I'll look out for her in Lyme Bay. Well done on the sale. Duncan
  5. Dave - have passed on your number to a neighbour who's looking for a cheap boat and this ticks all the boxes. I'm skiing in France this week so have txt him. His name is Jay, so if he calls he's genuine. Duncan
  6. Ditto great report and pics. What did you use to transfer/plot the route on Google Earth? Duncan
  7. Looked-up this old thread because I knew I'd read something about increasing the cruising range to 20m. I've just renewed my policy once again with Porthcawl Insurance at a very reasonable
  8. Perfect Rob, you're a star! Never thought about the road closure aspect - silly me thought they may publish something in the Harbour pages! That settles that then. Thanks very much indeed. Duncan
  9. See that's the value of this club, right there! I was planning on launching at West Bay tomorrow. Last year we got caught out when we arrived down there to find the slip closed for dredging, meaning an extra 45 mins trip back to Lyme Regis. I've been checking the Council web site, calling the harbourmaster's office - no reply all week - and even phoned Portland CG. Nobody has published any info or can tell me anything. Just now I've learned the dredging is in progress, so I won't be going there. Thanks chaps... Duncan
  10. Jim, Warriors are built in Preston, not Poland
  11. It's true. My missus was loads fitter when she was middle sized ..... just coming dear....
  12. Thanks Charlie. This is an extract from their original launch release... "Following the success of the project, there is now an opportunity to continue the work over the next 2 years, to extend the map to the western tip of the Isle of Wight in the east, and to cover the whole of Lyme Bay in the west, giving full coverage of the Dorset coast." Here's hoping... Duncan P.S. For anybody reading this who doesn't have a clue what we're on about, DORIS was a combined project to create a comprehensive map of the sea bed in (some of) our area, taking in underwater camera observations, dive reports and - most interesting - detailed sidescan sonar images, all of which are geo-corrected and published using Google Earth. At the moment it's basically Weymouth bay plus a little bit both sides. You can find it at... http://www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/c2/uploads/doris.kmz
  13. Good photos. Speaking of DWT does anybody know if there is further progress on the DORIS survey mapping? When they launched it they said they intended to carry on and map the rest of the Dorset coast (Lyme Bay and Poole Bay) but that was a couple of years ago and I've heard nothing. Is Doris dead or alive? Duncan
  14. Look. The inner workings of Government bureaucracy we can fathom in an instant. The mysteries of the PBSAC web forum however...
  15. Ah sorry,. a few of us answering at the same time. INtended use: Pleasure ship Type: PH Fishing Vessel. Oh and for anyone reading this with an old licence I just tried to access their systems with the username and web password they issued back in 2008. You can't - they have changed so now you login with an email address and you have to call them for a password! Duncan
  16. Hi Jon, I can answer some of your questions. The MMSI does NOT come with the radio. It's issued by Ofcom when you apply for the licence and you enter it into the radio as part of the initial setup. I guess it varies by radio type, but on mine thereafter the MMSI code can only be wiped/changed by a dealer, so you may have some fun when you apply for a new Ships licence. Licences are not transferable, so you will need to apply for a new one. The licence is free of course. My Warrior 175 is a "Pleasure Ship" according to Ofcom. Well it was yesterday. I'd start with Ofcom, sort the legal bit, then just find out how to swap MMSI on the radio. Hope this helps, Duncan
  17. After nailing some great Lyme Bay Pollack a fortnight ago we decided to do it all over again. Good forecast, very similar tides and times to the ones we had then. Water temp within a degree too. OK game on. Launched before 8:00 from West Bay, mist already clearing, and quickly down to be first boat on the wreck that was so good to us last time. Loaded up the same lures and got the drift line just right first time. Nothing. In fact for the next hour and a half backwards and forwards, plastics all colours of the rainbow, not a sniff. MMmm. Our to wreck 2. My buddy's rod plunged and a perfect condition 10.5 pounder came over the side, quickly followed by another slightly smaller. Note to self: Don't bring him again. Me? Complete blank - nada - the pollack-meister from 2 weeks ago completely outfished and demoralised. As I tried harder and harder to be in the kill-zone more and more redgills/sidewinders and lead went on a one-way journey into the wreck. 2 more wrecks and a reef - just the same. Buddy nailing nice fish and me not. In fact, by 4:00 all I'd caught was one pigging flobber. We decided to finish off with an hour at anchor on the whiting grounds, a bit of relaxation in the late afternoon sunshine. On with some baited feathers and after a couple of minutes up comes a mackerel. Time to choose - a nice lunch tomorrow or would fresh bait today be better than frozen? I chose to speculate to accumulate. Good call. 5 minutes later a nice bite and some serious weight. No crash dive, so not a pollack. Just lots of scrap and my 8lb rod bent over. This was a good fish. After 10 minutes a 17lb cod surfaced and was expertly netted. OK maybe this buddy has some use. My PB cod and suddenly a crap day turns into a good one. Re-load with more fresh mackerel and after a hoard of small whiting, 15 mins later some more proper weight. Not as big as the cod, but very healthy. Thankfully all went ok and over the side came another PB - this time a Whiting of 4lb 3oz. YES!! Buddy now looking a lot less smug. Overall an amazing turnaround, which just shows that no matter how badly things are panning out - keep going! The next specimen is just a tug away. Thanks Jon for a great day and for your expert netting skills Duncan
  18. Small tides and nicely in the middle of the day - sounds perfic! Now you just need the weather James! There may be a chance I could buddy-boat - will PM you nearer the time if so. Tight lines Duncan
  19. Well I *thought* I liked this, but now I'm not so sure. Duncan in Decisive.
  20. Neither the Gents nor the Ladies buckets on my Warrior has ever given trouble either
  21. Was hoping to finally get out tomorrow. Lunch-time today forecast for tomorrow was "3 or less/smooth" Perfect! Now it's bloody 5-6. AArrgghh!
  22. Having been "off" it's now working again, so the DNS propagation is obviously in progress. Duncan
  23. I really don't think you should mistake a difference of opinion for defensiveness. You have made comments and criticisms of both your 165 and Warrior Boats Ltd which are very much at odds with many club members' own experience. I've loved owning my 175 for the last 3 and a half years and been delighted with its quality and overall performance. Whenever I've contacted the company Phil/Paul have invariably been prompt and helpful with their support, as they were the day I collected it from the factory. Would I buy another or recommend Warrior to a close friend? Without hesitation. Now that's simply a very different view from the one you expressed. It doesn't make either of us defensive, right or wrong. Duncan
  24. I have the same ones as Brian (Ebay 220812344246) - had them over 2yrs on the original battery, nice & small in the tackle box and accurate too. I've even managed to use them once or twice Duncan
  25. OK so reading between the lines, the only solution is to ban all commercial fishing activity and dedicate the seas entirely to RSA. Agreed. Now we can move on? ... except I quite liked the fact that our local chippy had fresh cod the other night while we were watching Shepton Mallet carnival. This is an imperfect world. The EU is far more imperfect than most of it. But like it or not somebody is going to call the shots and with such a complex mix of vested interests, things will always be inconsistent and messy. My simple point was that Mrs Damanaki's comments about the big picture are making far more sense to me personally than any of her contemporaries... and a damn site more sense than ANY UK politicians.
