  9. Tom caught them on balanced kit using a lot of angling skill and competitive or not has IMHO earned the right to talk about it. Charlie I echo Charlies comments. Though I'm a relatively new member, there are a fair few of us who have put in many rod hours trying to alleviate Charlie of his club record. Well Done Tom Will

  15. After a tentative plan to go to The Rips plan B was Tope and get a few more species on the list.A beautiful morning with a bit of Easterly we decided to go West to one of our frequent marks, and after a struggle to catch some mackerel we put the hook in and fished the last hour of the ebb.Sport was slow and I was 1st in with a Tope in the mid twenties . Stuart followed with a Conger of about the same size.Slack water produced the smallest conger I've seen ,plus the compulsory LSD. The flood saw a 4 more Tope up to about 20lb come to the boat and the bites got less as the flood increased. We were on the verge of lifting the hook , when Stu had a few knocks. Pulling into the bite there was no expected run or shaking of the head ,just a dead weight with the pushing tide to help . After about 10 minutes I saw what I thought was a Skate and shouted so , which Stu replied it was a Big Turbot. Diving into the cockpit I retrieved a large landing net I bought in Alderney. After a few anxious moments I managed to fit the handle a slip it under . We just could not believe our eyes. Placing in the sling she pulled the scales down between 22lb 4oz and 21lb 12oz , we have taken it a the lesser. After taking the statuary pics Stuart returned for her/him to spawn another day ! What a cracking fish!!

    Rips

Hi All, Anyone planning going to the Rips on Tuesday ? Buddy required .
  18. After a stampede at Andy's shop to sign in for The Poole Dolphins open comp we headed down to the mariner to load Fifty Fifty up. Heading out with Stuart to the mark I was in great anticipation to try and duplicate last years result , to see if it was not just pure luck ! Slipping the hook in , we were soon had Bream of over 2 1/2 lbs. Good start. The tide died away, and the bites ceased. The other boats around us moved off , but we decided to sit it out for the tide to turn. We didn't have to wait long until the baits were being plucked again . As the tide increased so did the bites . I was on a roll , leading the way with more than my fair share ! That only encouraged Stu to respond, and soon caught me up.My earlier fish pulled the scale just under the 4lb mark, but Stu started to land a succession of large fish around the 4lb mark and started to lead the way! We caught fish right up to lifting the hook and was disappointed to leave such great sport , but the weigh in beckoned . At the scales my fish had had Bulimia and scaled 3lb 8oz . Ah well ..Stu's fish went 3lb 15 3/4 oz . Great fish .Looking around I felt Stu was in with a good chance . A short walk to the Pure Drop Inn , we waited for the results to be collated. We didn't have to wait to long before the results to be announced, and Stu had scooped the 1st prize plus the pools. What a result ! I managed to squeeze in at the 3rd spot, so I was well pleased . Shame Jonathan had to do his GCSE revision, we might have had a clean sweep!! Wishful thinking! Still there is always next year !!! Will

  20. Adam, we are in Will Stuart and possibly Jonathan
  21. A Big thank you to Charlie for all the planning and sleepless nights for such a successful trip. Also thanks to all other members in the making of the trip. I soon realised I was not going to catch as many as The Chapmans , when they started to shackled me to the Galley every 4 hours . However it was easy to please my victims ! It was like Tope, on a feeding frenzy ! Gordon devoured everything that looked edible followed by Charlie ( who I managed to fill him up ) Sam and Dan. There was great banter on board which made the trip a joy to be on. Thanks to Mark @Alderney Angling for time and advice and to Fe who looked after our needs. Will
  22. Excellent !! Will
  23. Happy Birthday Dan . Trust you had a great day . Cheers Wil
  24. Had the tears running down my face . Brilliant . Hope we are not crying later !! Will
  25. Thanks Guys , looks like I'm sorted one way or another. Cheers Will
