  1. Assuming there are no late posters that is 4 cod caught amongst 16 boats and 30 odd anglers, a very meagre return, they are just not there at present. I counted 50 boats fishing the Car Park, I don't think our boats were alone in not catching, Private Venture did have one but that's all I heard of.
  2. Tigerfish Cod(ling) to Alun of 2lb We also had whiting that size. . Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
  3. The survey is for Angling Trust Members.

  6. Thought I would post that the problem is now fixed. The guys at Ropewalk thought it was a sticky gear selector cable. I found that surprising given the symptoms, anyway, I let them go change it which they managed without putting the boat on the hard by doing some of the work attaching the cable to the leg underwater from the swim platform, impressive and saved me a haul out charge. Anyway after a month of use and many many gear selections/de-selections all of the faults listed above have disappeared so I think I can say it is sorted.
  7. Thanks for all your input guys. I haven't machined stainless no Jim, just cut holes in it and seen a similar effect, I used to cut titanium (when i worked for British Aerospace, so so long ago) and that had a similar characteristic. I like to do stuff myself if practical but if not I'm happy to use Matt.
  8. Well yes he can and he does good work but he is very slow and keeps missing dates he sets himself. Some of bits I need are things like 12 gauge (approx) rectangular plate 25cm x 10cm with 10 holes in it, the sort of thing I should be able to knock up myself.
  9. I'm going to be fitting some new toys to my boat soon and to make a decent job of it I want to use stainless for the mounts/brackets etc, so... Does anyone know where I can source modest quantities of stainless steel plate of various thicknesses, most likely type 316? Any recommendations for cutters and drills to use? Thanks Steve
  10. Nice one Roger, a good read. One of the benifits of fishing club boats, you can generally use a lot of rods as the head count is on the low side. Takes a fair amount of skills to manage them all though and at slack water with a bit of wind on the go well, more trouble than it's worth.
  11. What a solefull experience surly should be in the Darwin near miss awards list. Well darling I was just giving this little fish a quick peck when it jumped down my throat, honestly there was nothing I could do about it.... Yup totally believable. Mal, something to include in your safety warnings!
  12. Well done Rob, reward for all your efforts it's great when a plan comes together. A 150lb Blue is a seriously decent fish, brilliant. Sadly my idea of going for Tuna this year is not going to come off, work, too much of it is scuppering the plans.
  13. I am up for it if you postpone, currently in China
  14. If you can drop the requirement for level wind you will have a lot more choice. IMO level wind adds nothing to a reel, just make for more complication, extra bits for salt to get in and for the line to tangle in. With braid there is so much capacity in the spools even if you don't spread line much with your thumb like during a fight the build up in the centre will not be too bad.
  15. Weather doesn't look great for pushing out this weekend, shame as such a small tide (they don't come up very often).
  16. Hi Mel Thanks for the comments about on the Axiom, I'm thinking of upgrading my 11 year old Raymarine system (E120) to Axiom. I'm particularly interested in the 3D sonar feature, basically to know if it's worth having or still a work in progress and you are the only one I know who has one and used it round here! Does it display 3D as you motor along and if so how fast can you go? Is the 3D image clear in our waters (looks great on the demo done in fresh water)? Do fish in the water column really show up as dots? Do you think it will show up a decent images of a wreck? I'm sure lots of people in the club will be interested to hear more about it.
  17. Tigerfish Catch report: Rays caught: 0 (and we really tried) Mackerel - fully stocked for the whole winter and spring now, plus enough for quite a few meals Tope - couple of good ones and some bite offs Bass - no great size took a liking for mackerel Buss Huss - a few, one was pretty decent - see September photo of the month comp Great to be out there
  18. Tigerfish: Saturday, Steve with Lloyd Scott, John Evans (both non members)
  19. Tigerfish is fitted with 2 D4-260 A-B with a DPH drives, approx 980 hours The port engine intermittently will not increase revs as I push the throttle forward (reverse is fine). Forward gear is engaged and there is drive at tickover, but trying to increase speed has no effect. If I then select reverse gear for a moment, then forward gear again it was normally ok again, but this is not now doing the trick. Half way through last trip (fishing on the drift) it would not increase forward speed whatever I could think of doing, so I started to make my way back slowly and then after 10 minutes tried neutral and forward again and it worked! Just moving the throttle forward with the drive disengaged does increase the engine revs up to 2000 as I think is normal. As an intermittent fault hard to figure what is going wrong, any ideas? May not be related but the same engine also intermittently stops once up to normal temperature when taken out of gear.
  20. Congrats Chris, a very good bass to win with. Next year watch out I'll save my most reliable big bass spot till the day of the comp [emoji6]
  21. Tigerfish Lots of bass caught well over 20, the sticking point was 4.5lb plenty around that size but nothing over. Alun 4.5lb Steve 4.5lb bonus bull huss, wrasse and so many mackerel of all sizes they were crawling up the rods had all we needed in no time at all. Great day out, fantastic weather.
  22. Phew Chris well done, we are going to have to go some tomorrow to beat that!
  23. Tigerfish - Steve and Alun, on Monday
  24. Freshpack Eiffel Pro Usage report I been using the Freshpack Eiffel Pro since February for filleted fish and mackerel for bait. It works really well, I find I can fillet fish, wash them, remove most of the water off the fillets with my hand, put them in the bag with say 6" of bag above the fillets and let the vacuum packet do it's stuff. If a little water/blood gets sucked into the packer it gets caught in a small drip tray and the bag still gets sealed ok. The tray is easy to clean afterwards. It will work continuously, so on the few occasions there have been a lot of fillets to process I've not had to wait for the vacuum packer to 'rest'. I've been using rolls supplied by Freshpack rather than bags (except the ones they provided with the packer) as I think it is more economical as they can be cut to size. Fish sealed in vacuum bags comes out noticeably fresher than just bagged and frozen sufficiently so for me to vacuum pack all the fish, even if I think will be eating it in a few weeks.
