    Zidane

Sophie Ellis Bextor was found headbutted to death in a French footballer's apartment on the night of the World Cup final. According to local police, "It was murder on Zidane's floor." I thank you!
  2. Great report Tom - glad you had a successful day out. Mike

    Level Wind

I am sure you will have cheked this but it once happened to me where I had some muck in the side of the level wind mechanism and the level wind was not going all the way to that side. It was only a small amount of sand and the effect it had on the spool loading was quite severe. See you Sunday mate - give me a call. Mike
  5. Following discussions with Rich last night I think I may have lost a trigger off Ringstead on Saturday - bit and fought like a vicious bream and bit through the trace. After all Fred had a bogue which is another of our warm water visitors. Mike

    Sunday

Looks like I might get my fist chance to hit the water since Alderney on Sunday (weather permitting). Anyone got any advice as to where we might try on Sunday from Weymouth and what we might look to catch? All help greatfully received. Mike
  8. http://filaman.ifm-geomar.de/Photos/Pictur...03&what=species After a quick internet search I think it might be a bogue. Mike
  9. I have never seen one but I think there is a bream like fish called a "bogue" which is caught form time to time off the Purbecks - maybe it is one of those - anoyone knwo what a "bogue" looks like? Mike
  10. Cheers Rich I am afraid I did not get the necessary permissions for today's comp but will pop down to the River Frome later to see what is biting. Will see you out on the water for the 48 hour comp in a few weeks . Mike
  11. Just seen it Rich - looking good Glad to see you catch plaice about the same size as you catch turbot! Mike
  12. Thanks for your help guys - I think a battery operated garmin unit with a tranducer mounted on temporary mount/pole is the way forward. Rich I tried to send you some e-mails yeserday but they were returned this morning - thanks for taking the effort. Will e-mail you the numbers of my secret cuckoo wrasse mark!! See you on the water soon Mike

    Salt-x

Paul I think you were using Salt-X to get the salt form your reels on our Alderney trip - if so what strength mixture do you use and are you ahppy with the results? Any one else use Salt-X or similar? Mike
  16. Sounds just what I am looking for Tom - will see what ebay has to offer. Mike
  17. Rich I really need a fully portable unit as the boat gets winched up a pebbled beach which will remove any transducer and it would be nice not to have to lug a 12V battery around too. Good to meet you in Alderney - really enjoyed the banter. Seems ages ago now sat at my desk. Mike
  18. I certainly know the Helford River mouth is good for bass although you have to be careful to fish outside of the Nursery Zone. You can get thornbacks in the river mouth too and bream (giltheads later in the year) and mullet in the river itself. Manacles has always looked a bit dangerous to me if you don't know what you are doing as the rocks come out of the water from nowhere.
  19. My brother and I are off to Falmouth with our 14 foot coastliner at the beginning of June - does anyone happen to know any inshore marks down there that we might try?
  20. My brother and I are taking our 14 foot coastliner down to the Helford River at the beginning of June for a week's fishing around Falmouth. We had an old Eagle Ultra portable fishfinder which is no longer working - anyone abel to recommend a good portable fish finder? Do they do colour portables yet?? Any help gratefully received Mike

    Alderney

A fantastic trip - thank you all for being so welcoming to me and Dave on our first excursion with the club. We really enjoyed the trip - superb weather, great banter and some really good fishing. Well done Paul J for your red letter day on Wednesday - was great to see Well done also to Tom and Duncan for showing us what can be achieved in our own boats and putting your respective crews over the fish. Your boats both looked fantastic in the water. A particular thank you to Adam F for organising a seamless trip and to Chris Caines for putting us on the fish and Lyle for sorting us out with bait, coffee and some handy network (particularly for Richard the Badger). I ended up with my first turbot and a few others to go with it and my first brill so was really chuffed. Look forward to seeing you all out on the water soon. Mike
  22. What's the latest view on the weather (wind) for the Alderney trip?
