  1. paul if you can make the trip it is an experience well worth having! I have great memories of both my weather aborted attempts to get west and the year I made it. health and boat issues rule me out this year but I hope to get "down west" later in the summer, either for the wsf meet or some club events. if you can make it go for it greg
  2. hi Charlie you do not know how many memories that picture has just brought back, thank you
  3. folks I really enjoy the Weymouth meet and had been looking forward to meeting you guys again but currently the weather don't look to kindly on another long distance foray west. forecasts seem to change so many times these days so I don't rule it out yet! good luck to all those that do go especially those arriving by sea- the only "proper" way to do it
  4. folks I have just whipped thro this thread, it brings back so many memories of my various attempt's to get there aided by several of you. I have a boat fuelled up and serviced and ready to go that can do Alderney in 6 to 7 hours from here but work and family and health don't allow it good luck to you all, have great and safe and trouble free trips with great fishing. look forward to seeing the reports greg and even more good luck to those who have been involved in my journeys over the last few years
  5. oh dear! i cant remember how many trains and taxis were involved in acheiving last years trip but i know i went to and from poole to portsmouth to eastbourne a few times. And i do know it was the greatest memory of last year, but i had thought about giving it a break this year so do i do it again, surely theres no point in having a long distance mile eater if you dont let her lift her skirts at least once a year? but could someone fix the weather this year? in practice if you lot go and have great weather i will be well fed up! maybe it has to be done again
  6. terry only just seen this, hope you can still remeber the days celebrations greg

cascars will give you far more than i ever can! greg
  10. hi Will BFM did an article on fishing out of newhaven about a year ago, i will look for the details when i am next on the boat. newhaven is at the western end of my normal range but i have some marks - mainly inshore wrecks that i could dig off the plotter if you pm a e mail address. otherwise newhaven boats will fish the inshore reefs west to brighton or go up to the areas around beachy head and head ledge- but take care around there it can be interesting. otherwise it is out deep to the mid channel wrecks hope this helps greg
  11. hi dont forget that you will need to get an antenae as well and frankly for the cost of a new dsc set i would not think of buying a secondhand set you might save 30 or 40 quid but have the hassle of sorting the mssi number and the unknowns of a second hand set, buy a new one!
  12. niggle delighted for you, i spent the afternoon trying to think why you had a leg problem with those symptoms. wish now i remembered the gauze bit after my saga with a fuel tank i think- if i remember correctly that we (my engineer really) cut the gauze off and also shortened the uptake pipe slightly to get it away from any crud on the botttom of the tank. tank size is such that thats not an issue. in my ignorance the only question left is why could you draw fuel for high revs under no load but coudnt get it when loaded up does revs not control consumption? chuffed for you now enjoy greg
  13. i know i am being piccy - but could someone turn the wind down about 3 tommorrow afternoon- without affecting the folowing days! thank you in anticipation greg
  14. ok and many thanks for your efforts, fingers crossed greg
  15. just watched bbc weather "when we get to friday the winds will start to strengthen" lets hope that changes then!
  16. charlie that cant possibly be right, it sugests we might get there! interesting site tho lets hope its right and its predictions last for the next 10 days
  17. rib eye please terry
  18. i sat in the office this morning- the time of our original planned trip back and looked out over an english channel full of white horses, on saterday am as i retreated from poole to portsmouth there was a stiff northerley. there is no doubt in my mind that the right deciscion was made
  19. i dont know you but i have had brand new boats damaged before by plonkers so i feel for you and hope it gets sorted quickly
  20. just a bit of a lift really to everyone getting over the gosh i wish we were going feeling! obviously i am not planning to come in two weeks because otherwise the jinz will strike but this was the fourth time i have left eastbourne to get to alderney- and thats only 4 because i cant remember what hapened in 2010! so it obvious really this must be the trip for every one to get booked up on as fifth time lucky has to be the one!
  21. just looked again, window is closing all the time, ( well at least since this morning) fingers crossed for the next dates many thanks to all and espeacially terry for the accomodation battle greg
  22. there's good and bad in what I'm seeing Alun.... let's see what develops (the high pressure's gone by late Sun) and how the timing for Thu/Fri pans out as well - I'm seeing SSW 6 on Thu and light N midday Fri! british weather- and weather forecasts, dont you just love them!
  23. thanks nige you have just confirmed an 8 hr train round trip was to much for similar fishing today, but i do detect you are enjoying the new boat- i did on the way down to poole on thursday and i have had one for a few years! fingers crossed for friday greg
  24. bother! after all this planning someone should have sorted it, pick the right forecast site and it looks lovely?
  25. hope to get down over the weekend, have some VERY posh neighbours so need to give the boat a clean, you obviously have a better class of posh boat in poole, sovereigns posh boats only cost half a mill
