  1. thankyou for the thought, i needed/should have had a scooter a few years ago and didnt have one but hopefully i am going up the right side of the distance walked graph now
  2. thats the main plan martin, no more of the yard saying i am sorry we started late then got a damaged part from japan which they wont replace because we opened it late and it cant be replaced because of an earthquake for me plan to get down by mid april at the latest dont know where i will park it, in all my leaving cars down there going back to get it and or the boat back i discovered the train service is quiet good /restfull/cheap so will explore options nearer the town centre, i so enjoyed my walk from parkstone to the train station last year but it was at the limit of what i can do so may be a bit much after a weekend afloat watch this space the mrs sea cant wait to strech her legs again
  3. Yipee! i have a date for the return of the Mrs Sea to the water 11th feb unheard off timimg, no more driving off the crane and setting out for poole the next day and the better news is the yard cant come up with any major work to do because we did it all last year. next job is to order the weather for the trip down- bit more tricky that one greg
  4. not all correct terry - there were no pizza shops, but we did all eat as a family at home. bedrooms could be chilly places and heaven forbid if you wanted to use the phone (not that we were allowed) and the neighbours were already on the party line loved it
  5. some of us have waited three years! ps and are not waiting 4

  7. folks as previously stated i am not interested in ever going to alderney or planning the trip or looking at the weather for two weeks before i dont go or fueling up the boat (i now know i have a 600 litre tank!) filling up the cabin with food and water ect however just in case i was to change my mind if next years trip is planned for the 12 th may is it safe to assume that reserve dates will run on 2 week cycles? she who must be kept sweet wants/needs dates when i may be away on an unplanned unwanted not looked forward to trip of a lifetime many thanks greg
  8. after 30 + years at the coal face of environmental health nothing surprises me anymore, even the shock horror programes of recent years dont show the half of it! happy christmas to everyone greg

    dry suit

having done a few over the years scissors the most important bit is follow the lines but take off tiny bits. test it for enough time to ensure its still wrong and then if need be come back and take some more off, as my old granddad said you can always take some more off but you cant put it back on, and on one seal i took a tad to much off1

    Sharks!

a bit like tickling trout really, only more exciting! (for exciting read any number of words of the lunatic dangerous challenging or insane variety)
  13. well for everyone who cant do the new date there may be others who can, got the boat back last weekend. a couple of trips this week so confidence coming back, i will never bank on getting there at any date but if the weather window opens up i would not be surprised to see the Mrs Sea tied up in poole in 2 weeks. fresh cod for tea tonight so maybe the end of the year will be ok greg
  14. hi Martin finally got the boat back today, it now has a 4 foot by 1 foot shiny ally hatch down the middle, having only just got it back i wont have time to build the confidence back before next weekend so i will wish every one well for next weekend and get some time in on the boat before looking forward to nextt years attempts to fish from poole! greg
  15. ok a bit of a bump the mrs sea has started the surgery, deck cut out, three acccess hatches cut into the fuel tank so that we could get each side of the baffles, 400 litres of fuel (and i had done more than a few hours running and the gauge was at about 60%), pumped out and filtered, large amounts of crud removed from the bottom, 3 hatches being made up for the tank and then a waterproof hatch going in to replace the deck, fuels getting filtered again and then going back, i dont care where the crud thats being collected goes as long as its no where near the boat, anyone want to go fishing the open? ps if i get there she will be well sea trialed pps please someone after my brief glimpses of parkstone earlier this summer can some one fix the weather so i see it again this year? all the best greg and if i dont make it i hope you all have a cracking day
  16. i loved the pics, they brought back so many memories of sailing out of both places, thank you greg
  17. hi everyone loved the pics of poole posted today, they brought bsck many happy memories, it inspired my determination to return. the Mrs Sea is about to undergo surgery to fix her dirty fuel tank and i am thinking it would be nice to do a run to poole for the open competition weekend, for me the competition is not important but if there are members out there prepared to take the risk on the weather allowing me to get there and fancying a fishing platform for the day then please get in touch. greg
  18. And for a few more nights to come i guess, well done !
  19. good Luck guys i hope that you have a very good and fruitfull week greg
  20. bleeding heck if i had seen this in time and the pile was big enough i would have been down, sure as hell would have beaten two fruitless trips down there this year ps but seeing the view from parkstone again was worth it
  21. charlie glad to hear all ended well and hope your test goes well tomorrow. in the spirit of your original post i will add the following. i use the alderney ring single handed, having the bouy on a stop well in front of the boat i find helpful/essential. It allows a wide sweep round to pick up the line and i can see the rope all the time the time i C***ed it up big style was when with an untrained crew, (again the communication issue comes up,) and in the, for me stronger unfamilar tides near portland, fortuantly no harm done- warp went right under the boat without catching anything, but it does seem to be the case that when distracted away from "normal" wether by differant conditions, crew or proximity of something else is the time when things go wrong. greg
  22. didnt mention that she cant cook tho and i have to do most of it! , swings and roundabouts or that she walked over 100 miles this week in the peaks and is now asleep on the sofa having had a good feed up to recover

  24. well perhaps this is the way to do it one wife, silver anni last year, left her on first date at 3am as had to go sailing in the morning 3 fishing boats, had 5 racing dinghies at once at one point and owned god knows how many with 3 or 4 new builds and brought our first house because it had a double garage for the boats and our current house because it had the space to park them, sadly only got 2 boats now greg
  25. dont forget that sail for gold is on in portland this week, might be a tad crowded
