Stuie reacted to Reel Wizzard in Short day in the bay
Such a nice day on Monday that we (Nobby) and I decided to have a late start. we popped out to the Gully just to see if we could get something on slack water and start of ebb, Nobby dropped down and had a nice blounde ray of about 20lb followed by me with a small undulate of about 8lb Nobby then had a couple of strap congers about 5lb each before i got what i am guessing was a shark take a mackerel strip, it just ran off at a rate of knots which i could do very little about before stopping, I thought it had bit me off so started winding in when off it went again was down to my backing when luckily it did bite me off so I got my 300yards of new braid back. Tide really picked up after that so we moved back in to the secret ray mark. it was quite slow and all we had was a couple more small undulates some doggies and a pout, just as we reeled in Nobby had a 3lb Brill which was released. Not lots of fish but a nice short session on a lovely day. Hope to get out again on Thursday which will see us back to the Isle of Wight although I now know of a nice Cod (18lb) being caught in the Bay.

Stuie reacted to sparky in short trip
Gave Marichelle a run out today to charge her batteries, cruising at 16 knots in the main ship channelÂ
when the boat had a drastic loss of speed.........and a loud sucking noise ( behave boys !!!!)
Â
Turned the motor of immediately, lucky no big ships coming or going !
Â
Engine is a VOLVO D3 160 and the problem was the rubber hose about 4 inches long connecting the aftercooler to the metal pipe that goes to the turbo had come off !! Managed to get it back on and limped back to Cobbs.
Â
The jubilee clips still have the green volvo paint on and it has never been taken off by me or my mechanic, but they were really loose on inspection , as were the ones at the turbo ! Tightened all 4 up and all appears to be ok now, turbo working etc.
Â
So if you have one of these engines or similar I would advise you to check how tight the jubilee clips on the hoses are !!!

Stuie reacted to Steve S in Volvo Penta engine will not increase revs after engaging forward gear (intermittent)
Thought I would post that the problem is now fixed. The guys at Ropewalk thought it was a sticky gear selector cable. I found that surprising given the symptoms, anyway, I let them go change it which they managed without putting the boat on the hard by doing some of the work attaching the cable to the leg underwater from the swim platform, impressive and saved me a haul out charge.
Â
Anyway after a month of use and many many gear selections/de-selections all of the faults listed above have disappeared so I think I can say it is sorted.

Cheers for the birthday wishes guys.
Â
Had a great chilled out day .
Â
Even better in that I Retired from work again(only for the second time ) yesterday so will be starting to get down to the boat again.
Poor thing has been languishing on the drystack all year and needs a bottom wetting ceremony.

Stuie got a reaction from Ark in Spoils still slow
Another slow day on the spoils - a good blonde put in an early appearance.
Went out again with Neal yesterday and anchored south of Ballard.Â
Apart from the one blonde ray we only had dogs and straps to show for our efforts. Stil waiting for the cod and whiting to arrive. At lease we're putting the hours in.....

Thanks for all your birthday wishes, probably the sunniest warmiest birthday I have ever had, gorgeous.
I will try and remember it, that's becoming ever more difficult at my age. Â Â

Well, thanks to you all for the kind wishes. Conditions in the Bristol Channel were surprisingly good with just a little swell close in. Plenty of fish and a good time spent with former colleagues and friends. A meal and a few bevvies afterwards were most enjoyable too.
