I was asked at the meeting about Video editing software.
    I use Cyberlink Power Director.
There are some really good youtube tutorials to get you going.
They have gone over to subscription based software now so a monthly fee for as long as you want to use it.
They still sell it on a perpetual licence for about £100 ish but you don't get the updates with that. (I'll never go monthly)
    https://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-video-editing-software/pricing_en_GB.html

I can't speak for any other software.
I was asked about free software but Google is your friend there.
For basic cutting and joining I have used free phone apps in the past which work quite well.
    Hope this helps someone.

As the weather is so "Pooooooo" I thought I'd cheer you up a bit.
Steve's eldest wants to get into video editing. Grandad was proud to help.
I needed to find something that was interesting, not too complicated,  had some humour, and had a need for a few tools to get her started.
    We produced a short video.
This may ease your Cabin Fever a bit.
Excuse the poor sound. The microphone on my camera is poor.
    Enjoy!

Our plan was to make the most of the weather on Wed, we had a rehearsal in the evening so couldn’t stay out too long. We planned to get to the boat for 0700hrs but we were ahead of schedule and we were off by 0645hrs. The plan was to head to a bank for bass drifting and anchor for the slack for an hour or so. First drift I hooked up with a fine 48cm bass, second drift which was slowing down I managed another bass of 51cm. So do we drift again or anchor we decided to anchor. We didn’t have any fresh mackerel but our frozen had only been in the freezer since last Tuesday. Down went the big baits on 6oz leads and then lighter rigs with worm. We had steady fish for an hour, congers, a Small Blonde and a few nice Bream. The tide was turning and we started upping the lead, once 10oz wasn’t holding we pulled up the hook and went back on the drift. We were back on the Bass straightaway and we were both hooking up on every drift. I spotted another boat heading in our direction and our thoughts were that a charter was heading to our bank, lucky for us it was Loobie iv. Gerry asked if we were  going to anchor or drift. I confirmed we were drifting for Bass. Gerry being the gent he is stayed over a different part of the bank to us, it didn’t seem he was doing as well as us so I told him to follow us on our drift as we were hitting fish each drift. Gerry called up saying that he had a problem with his engine monitoring or something like that. He decided to head inshore so we kept a listening watch in case he had any problems getting home. We carried on drifting and ended up with 24 bass the best 58cm. We headed back at 1330hr and stopped off on a Ray mark near Swanage. The baits were being stripped in minutes by Bream giving any Ray that might have been around no chance. We gave it an hour then headed back. It was a great day to be out and we had our quota of 4 bass all nice eating size.

Got out Sunday for a quick session trying to avoid the weather, couldn’t stay out too long as tides were against me  (my boat sits on mud at low tide).
managed to find a few mackeral for bait and was hoping for more Tope but my anchor rope wasn’t long enough (fishing in 85ft of water) so couldn’t hold bottom. Moved to more forgiving shallower ground and netted a few.
    still, fun was had 😉👍🏻

Well, maybe I get a few more in, but it doesn't feel like it!!!

Alun was taking Adam as JV was in need of a filter housing before heading over the channel. And I was stuck with a car that had failing tow electrics.........so, Friday pm fettle, got them working, there was a loose connection found and sorted!

A mate from work wanted to go on this last minute adventure, but was a last minute letdown, invite rescinded.

Now to get her ready. She hadn't moved since July last year and that was after a tow in! So this was a shake down after a thermostat clean and waterway acid treatment. Namely as we got blown off last year's shark trips to Cornwall.

Today was ideal with Gastronaught as "AA" rescue (AlunAdam). So, met them at the slip, I head off 20 mins later, then back to slip as left mobile on trailer mudguard!!!

Macs were hard to find, but got a few and some for the Club BBQ tonight.

I managed a couple of lovely bass 5:6 and 4:14, hooked up within 10 seconds of each other. Fun on 15-40g spinning rods and floats! One rod between knees and the other in hand, so, one rod in holder and wind when looked slack, but let's focus and get one to the net. Ended up with both, so that was good.

Missed another couple and had one follow my bait to the boat 3 times, but just would.
    not take!

Strange fog, mist, sun, cloud mix all morning, but no rain!

All done by 12 and I didn't need AA assistantance, so met them at the slip just after 12, home by one and all was well for a shakedown run before sharking adventures in September.

Apart from...........jockey wheel snapped as I pulled her on to the drive! If that is the worst of it, I'll take it! It was rusted and the walls had gone terribly thin. Better now than in Cornwall!

Catchwise is a ground-truthing survey of recreational sea angling taking place across England and Wales in 2023 and 2024. Substance, the Angling Trust and Cefas have partnered to deliver this exciting new project.

The project has been co-developed with the recreational sea angling community and aims to significantly improve recognition of sea angling's value to coastal communities and inform relevant sea fisheries management decisions accurately. Catchwise will be the biggest single study of sea angling undertaken for over a decade and will involve a major shore and private boat survey of sea anglers as well as a survey of charter boats.

The project is funded by Defra's Fisheries Industry Science Partnerships Scheme (FISP) and is being supported by a large number of angling and marine organisations. The project has an Advisory Group representing the recreational sea angling community, individual anglers, charter skippers, scientists, fisheries managers and agencies including Angling Trades Association, Association of IFCAs, Welsh Government, Institute of Fisheries Management, Defra, Marine Management Organisation and more.

Catchwise will involve face-to-face surveying of thousands of sea anglers all around the English and Welsh coast and an online survey of charter boats. For more details on the project please visit the Catchwise website - Catchwise

The project is looking for Volunteer Angling Citizen Scientists across England and Wales to help the professional surveyors to survey anglers and increase the reach of the project. For more information on volunteering see the link above and to sign up click here https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/catchwisevols/.

What do you need to volunteer?
Be able to access the coast easily. Be able to conduct face-to-face surveys. How much time will it take?
One or two 4-hour surveying sessions per month. In a year: Ideally the whole year! But a minimum of four months between now and June 2024. If you cannot commit to this right now, we still want to know if you’re interested. What do volunteers get?
Become a recognised Volunteer Angling Citizen Scientist Training, guidance and support Be part of a community of angling researchers Monthly prize draws and goody bags Welcome pack and certificate detailing your contribution

I see Mal mentioned my dunking in his report so I’ll explain.

When they put those yellow buoys in at Baiter, did they dredge it a little bit? I tied to one next to where the slip is about 3 ft deep and thought it was the same under the boat. What happened next was reminiscent of that famous puddle scene in the vicar of dibley.😬
Actually it didn’t quite go above my chest waders until iclimed my rope ladder to get back aboard and found I couldn’t do it without leaning back!  I got aboard with a litre of water in each boot .Yuck.

Endeavour3 ‘s new motor was booked in for its first service on Tuesday.James and I took her down . I’d guesstimated she had run 20 hrs. Left home at six and unhitched her at Holes Bay Marine at 8.45. Went and had a coffe with Jerry Shutter who has a nice bungalow overlooking holes bay. Went to the quay for bait and breakfast. Soon got the call “she’s ready”. How many hours did I think she had done? The engineers chip read 19.6. Good guesstimating! (Using navionics track records) Beautiful day but a force3 to four ( all flags flying well) boded dodgy sea state . We figured if it’s too rough we’ll fish in the harbour but were told that the Harbour Master isn’t allowing fishing in the harbour because of the oil spill .  We spent 40 mins pulling lures by the training bank . Some  waves over a meter were coming through so I stayed at the helm mostly. We quit that and ran for the lee afforded in Swanage . There I tried to find top speed but at 5 K rpm we were touching 20 knots and slamming uncomfortably. Top speed is for another day. Lunched on a conservation buoy there. Last time we had no tea, this time we had no sandwiches😩. After an hour we felt the wind was dropping and there were less whitecaps at old Harry so we made a track to the outer patch.  Anchoring went well and we fished spot on our desired mark.
we fished 3 hook flappers with squid capped worm ,and also bunged a whole squid over for good measure. It wasn’t too uncomfortable. It was around low tide and stuck it for an hour letting out another 20m of anchor line to change the scenery. No bream action so after an hour or so we upped tackle and look who was chewing our squid!     Small trophy no blank! So on to Bournemouth to chase plaice .  In a series of drifts  I caught 1 and james had four . Hurrah.   Could have stayed longer but wanted to attend boat club AGM.  We thought we’d take th boat to Oakdale Conservative club and find a leafy lane to park it on. Sat nav took us half a mile up a single track road called Darby’s road north only to find the road blocked with iron bars. There we were ambushed by the locals . A very friendly couple who helped us unhitch the boat and manhandle it up their drive to effect  a  U-turn.  Oakdale con club is half a mile away on another Darby’s road . Using the postcode got us to a cul de sac nearby where less friendly natives watched us do a turn in distain .  Fortunately there was a leafy lane to park on nearby. And eureka ! The con club. Sorry we were late Mr chairman. Congrats Mal and thanks and respect Brian. Still we heard a talk on  Match angling…..quite a different kind of day out.   Sent from my iPhone
