Sort of a deal done with the Joint Venture team. Using the Dorset bartering system of you want something I've got and I want something you've got (...I want Bob). Not sure if Bob will be able to fix things, but if the lads next door haven't done it by the end of the weekend then hopefully Bob will take a look at the electrickery which also does my head in.
-
What? I don't believe for one moment that JV is wired in an absolute mess!? Could you please PM me Bob's number? Cheers Tom

I am just trying to avoid paying for him!

1 x Battery for starting 1 x Battery for all other 12V systems Both isolated, but with a cross over No shorepower or any other chargers other than the alternator. Have tried three separate batteries on the domestic system and all behave exactly the same so I believe the batteries are fine... it's the wiring. My instinct is telling me that something is loose, wrong at the isolator, but can't see or feel anything out of the ordinary. The confusing part is that it has all worked perfectly for five years, but then that would also suggest something has gone a tad rusty, snapped, frayed...?
-
Suspect you are right Rob. NO idea where to start though. Everything working fine until last trip out when domestic battery "appears" to be flat (almost flat, no power to wipers, led's on fuse panel very faint etc). Switch on deck wash, a little click and then nothing... 15A fuse blown. Change to different battery, still seems flat... Short while later, not immediate, power seems to come back to everything, I put this down to the engine / alternator throwing a charge into the battery, but no idea if that is the case. Last week, we thought we had deduced that the switch for the deckwash was faulty. Bypassed the switch and all seems oK. Go back today and the fault is back! Changed the deckwash switch... still have the fault! Now getting confused and may need to pay for a pro... no money(!) arrrg, don't want the pro as can't pay them!...... Bu@@er.

Grrrrrrr We have domestic battery problems!!!! Don't know what is causing it, but everything barr the motor electrics is playing up! Keep your fingers crossed for a quick and easy fix!

Possibly maybe, Quest II + 3 In addition, what about rafting two or three of the boats together for an onboard BBQ one evening?

Just been hunting and it appears the one I mentioned may now be sold as I can't find the listings anymore, but look in the US as their are stacks of them, for fair money. DO get it independently surveyed and I'll be happy to help with CE marking etc if you wish. None of the importing process should be considered scary, but it's important to do it right. Simon Larman (Britboard) imported his own boat (a Proline by co-incidence) and I feel sure will also advise. Do check out the Glacier Bays... amazing boats for their size.

John May not be your cup of tea, but take a look: http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/dis...hoto=1&url=ssys Perhaps the best "small" cat in the world. Down in the Med is what looks like a cracking Island Runner which is reputed to be one of their best models. Similar money to the Proline and I promise it will be ten times the boat and complete with two fairly new 4 strokes. I don't know the actual boat or even if it is still for sale, but I would kill to own her. Two good friends and two of the most respected charter skippers in the world have both owned Glacier Bays and absolutely love and rate them as the best out there. Roger Bayzand (Sundance fame) and Roddy Hayes (80's Alderney skipper and the man that put Madeira on the map for big game fishing in the 90's) are both legends whose opinions I hold in the highes regard. They LOVE this brand. Seriously would be worth a look. Tom

Like I said previously. I am glad we made our call. in my opinion, settled weather is the only sensible choice if not for comfort, but for safety. I don't truly think that the weather is remotely dangerous for any of the boats, but I want to be able to sleep in the harbour and I want to stand whilst fishing. The middle part of next week appears quite good, but I can't expect Abbie to keep changing her work schedule too so I will remain with the plan of the 20th. Fingers crossed for all whatever decisions are taken. Tom

Keep your knickers on! I take it that after that little outburst you aren't coming down for a natter?

Billy is a far better option than me. He's a real local, I was only ever a wannabe local! Still, I'll be happy to help too if you need more than Billy can provide.

I'm agnostic so don't believe / not convinced by The Bible, but I still think it's a bloody good read and would love a copy please!

For anyone who is planning to join us on the 20th, slack water on the Thursday morning is an hour earlier than the 6th. Ebbtide until 09:30 mid channel on 20th. Anyone wishing to use the tide to their advantage (me) will be leaving even earlier than discussed last night in the pub. A proper early start (05:30) giving an opportunity to really break the back of the journey before cutting across the flood tide. This earlier start will mean that breakfast trips to the likes of Speedy maybe out, but a "Sundowner" on Speedy will definitely be on the cards.

Email me those "lists" you had and I'll consider believing you.

Quest II and crew have made the final decision to postpone until Thursday 20th May at the earliest. If we have settled weather, then and only then will we be heading across to the small country of Alderney. I won't even look at the forecast again for at least another week or so. Tom

That's where I was going wrong. I didn't realise that Guernsey was a country! Thanks Oli

Out of interest and really dumb question, but if using windguru to search CI weather, what location / port / island do you search under?
-
St PP isn't really an option for my own plans as I currently expect to fish the Schole Bank. Nothing against the Schole as I love fishing it, but that was Plan C with A and B both being far more local venues to Alderney.

My issue with any of the forecasts is that whilst one day seems nice and another later on seems ok, in between they are pretty rubbish and sleeping onboard in a NE 4 / 5 will be hell. I am becoming of the mind that I will simply want to wait for a nice spell of properly settled weather and whilst I know Chris and Pete (my crew) are eager to go, we may want to consider putting things on hold for a fortnight as steady north and easterly winds really won't make for a nice time. It's supposed to be fun as far as I am concerned.
-
BARGAIN!!! Well done, sounds like a top purchase.

Heading across on a N4 or 5 will be fine so long as you don't want to fish mid channel, but coming home in the same will be horrible. I've done it before and don't want to again. I am not going to make a proper call until Tuesday night but suspect the worst. I'm flexible for a new date, but I'm not sure about my crew.

Lovely boat, defo use both engines as handling and general use will be horrible on one. If anyone is interested I know of one with diesel inboards in Ireland going for about
