Well this post got me doing some homework. Neal has kindly given me details of the mechanic who previously did the work at Lathams. Apparently he is still doing marine servicing and I have his details if anyone wants them. Thanks Neal. In addition, I have since found uot that Peachments have finally appointed a new service agent for Dorset. D-Ray Marine based in Bournemouth are the new approved service centre. Nag Peachments. http://www.peachment.co.uk The are the UK distributors. The guys at Lathams Boat Yard used to be the service agents, but went belly up(?). Currently wehave no official service agent for Nanni which is ludicrous considering the number of engines kicking around Dorset. Check with Peachment, but for the time being they are letting any qualified and official marine mechanic service the engines under warranty, assuming the service is done in accordance with their schedule. Congratulations Alan. She looks a picture! Good test of her for the first tip around too! You may find that the fuel guage is wired to a switch that you have to press to check fuel levels.... Mine is! I have no idea why this is, but many Jeanneau's are wired this way. The saleman's pitch is that it is a safety feature to keep you checking. As a by the by, the guages are only really accurate when at a standstill or tickover. As soon as you push onto the plane they will always read well over. Well done. Tom

Sorry Charlie, couldn't resist. Just a little excited as I have my little girl over half term who I haven't seen since early August (mad working hours / days and my daughter lives in Oxford). She is a budding artist though and could probably do a great job for a very low price!

...my 5 year old? Excellent rates. If you supply the paper (preferrably pink) and the crayons then she would be happy to help. Provide a sand pit and she'll even do a 3D model. I am her manager so please book her services through me.

Mike Fox could do with it, I've jus taken him for a spin on our rather sexy 925WA. He had a full head of hair before we started.

Duncan In no way was i trying to confuse or argue with anyone. In fact I thought I made it abundantly clear that if the fish was for some trophy or other then of course it needs weighing, however for just fun fishing and where I or others don't give a hoot about winning a rod for the fish of the month I am happy if someone writes a eport saying it was about 12lb or the fish were in the 30 to 40 lb bracket. As far as I am concerened that makes great reading and is a lot more interesting that saying it was 4lb 6oz and 2drms. Again, for those that want to fish for trophies then all dues to you, weigh your fish, I'd rather get a rough idea from fish that I don't plan to keep and then cause them as little stress as possible. Paul It was never an argument, it was a suggestion as to how I'd happilly not have a Conger, it's slime and blood and muck in my boat in exchange for a good guestimation of the weight. If people truly want to weigh their fish then that is up to them, but personally a good guess is fine as I am not attempting to particularly impress anyone so if I over estimate then who am I fooling, but myself? I am not fussed about winning a rod or having a trophy so it doesn't botherme if my weights don't count for anything apart from a asimpe record of the catch. If people want to win prizes then weigh your fish... like I said, it was never an argument. Tom

Justed wanted to extend a warm welcome to Lilbrit (Paul) all the way from Sunny Northamptonshire. Lilbrit is a new but regular poster over on WSF and wanted to know more about fishing from the Dorset area. Naturally I have sent him over to here and explained teh more he gets involved the more he'll get out of it. Welcome onboard PBSBAC All the best Tom

Ditch the Gaff Even chin gaffing takes a lot of skill and will leave a much bigger hole in a fish you plan to return than the hook does. Get a decent net and anything yuo want to bring aboard will go in easily. Totally agree with Duncan. In addition, I know some of you yearn to win the fish of the month comps, but apart from for that reason, why bring 60lb+ of really pee'd off Conger into the boat? It thrashing around will end up in either you or it being hurt. Most of us are experienced anough to be a reasonably accurate judge of weight and with competition aside, I'd take your word for the weight you said it was.... Tom

Hi Guys Lester Mcarthy, Chief Photographer for Motorboat and Yachting has asked if he can come along to the open comp to do a short feature for the magazine. This is a little bit of a Coup as MBY usually focuses on vessels somewhat larger than ours and usually with at least 6 zeros at the end of the price tag. I've known Lester through work for several years and know that he is a keen, but very much less than successful angler with a few mackerel and garfish to his name. He does own a small Boston Whaler he keeps at Lymington, but has never really learned the ways of Poole Bay Sea Angling. With this in mind, I am putting a plea out to some of our skippers who may be looking for good quality crew to join them on the comp. Lester knows his boats and boat handling, but will require a little guidance on the fishing. Ideally one of our more experienced skippers who are likely to put him over a fish that will at least make a decent photograph (no pressure lads) would be perfect. If anyone fancies having a top boat magazine journalist / photographer onboard for the day then please let me know. I would offer myself, but at present I half expect not to actually fish and instead run a boat around the bay taking snaps of some of the action (I hope there will be some action). Tom

Hi Graham As martin say's it is a good all round unit. It is verging on the small side for a combined unit, but if you primarily switch from one screen to the other then both are very very good. In spllit screen mode it is excellent just a little petite, OK for ocasional wreck drifts or for pinpoint anchoring. It uses the same screen as the C70 and the only key difference is the C70 has the ability to add Radar. In the same sort of price range also consider the new Navman 8" screen. This is also a very good bit of kit and comes in a complete package. Tom PS: For your boat you would probably be better off with a transom mount transducer rather than a through hull one.

Hi Tony I am glad you are enjoying her and beginning to get the best from her. It takes time! She's a lovely boat and she is with us temporarilly whilst we do some last minute alterations to suit Tony's requirements. Fingers crossed that they will be completed imminently and Tony can enjoy her from her home berth at Rockley. PBSBAC? Nah RPSBAC! Tom

Pete You are thinking of QL Tabs which are distributed by Volvo agents. Very very effective. They work by creating huge amounts of drag, the downside is a somewhat higher fuel bill and considerably lower performance. On smaller boats, Bennett's and Lenco's may be preferable. whilst very effective, they cause a bit less drag, but they have the effect of providing a perceived loger waterline length to the boat which helps sea keeping considerably. In any case, I would 100% recommend adjustable tabs of one sort or another to the ever popular smart tab styles. Nothing particularly wrong with smart tabs apart from their lack of adjustment. It's great having a nicely dropped nose in a head sea, but that's the last thing you want in a following sea. It's in these circumstances that automatically adjustable tabs win hands down. Tom
-
The flip side is that whilst you gain in particular sea conditions you will lose out considerably in others. To get the best of all worlds you need adjustable (hydraulic or electronic) trim tabs. Tom PS: If a boat is porpoisiong it is usually over trimmed on the engine or badly balanced in the first place.
