  3. Oh B@gger! So me pleading to his better nature and bowing down to his infinite wisdom isn't going to cut it? ...So lads. Quest II has opted for a trip to errrrr West Bay in May ... Actually I think I may have to relinquish my membership and neve return to the forum for fear of the ridicule that is soon to take place.
  4. Thanks Pete! Have you been speaking to Chris today?....

    Moorings Again

Al We have just got a berth for one of our customers (actually they got it themselves) at Lymington YH. Try them, may be worth popping down. Alternatively, Salterns (
  7. Gordon There could be more than an ounce of truth in what you say, however I would suggest that black would be the best colour here. Black absords the heat on a warm day more than any other colour and as such will expand more creating more bouyancy. On the flip side a well pumped up white fender is likely to be better on a cold winters day as it will not deflate so quickly...

    Moorings Again

Al I can probably get a mooring for you it, but I promise, it ain't cheap. Tom
  9. My favourite is the stripey paint. Mike if you are nipping down the chandlery, do you mind picking up a sky hook for me and whilst you are there can you ask the guy at the counter for a long weight...

    Hi

Re- you two and Trevor (wedger) and me, how about setting up a Fat Blokes section of the club? You gotta be over 16st and under5' 10" (?) to join and we can form our own 'sub' comitee. (That is we order bloody great long french sticks loaded with edible goodies and don't share them with no one!!) Mad Mike At the rat I am going I shall be elligible to join very soon! A few more pasties and I'll be there. How much is membership? Tom
  11. I do enjoy this forum!!!! Charlie: Get one slightly bigger than the chart on the website that the post before suggests. I do agree with Mike that it is one thing having the bouancy to float the whole lot, but another to break it out. eg: If the chart suggests have a 14" bouy, go for one that is 16". Check out the chart, the bouyancy is almost double for very little extra space. After reading Mike's bit about coloured fenders it is making me wonder how much of his "advice" I have heeded in the past that wasn't really GOOD advice! Oh joy, the PBSBAC forum and Mad Mike have made me smile on an otherwise stressful day!
  12. Arrr Mike, I cn see you and Geoff are giong to get on like a house on fire.
  13. Hi Geoff Welcome onboard the forum. I am sure you will enjoy PBSBAC and the website. It is full tonnes of useful (and useless) information and there are dozens of other old duffers just like you to make you feel very much at home. Let's hope we can get out fishing at least once this coming year! All the best Tom
  14. I only this welsh man as "Lewis the Fish". Martin, you know me far to well to name drop or anything like that..... although he may have written a line or two for one of the lesser liked publications known to this forum, but this could be a nice way to get the club mentioned..... If I can get a good idea of numbers then I can work on price. And if we feel we can get a better deal ourselves then we could always sort it. At the moment I have no idea about price, save to say it will amost certainly be dearer than Alderney, but a 100% new experience to most of us. Tom
  15. Just been chatting to me welsh mate "Lewis the Fish" who has just returned from a few days Cod fishing in Norway. His best fish was a 54lb beauty with loads of 30lb + fish. All caught using the new style of Japanese pirks with a single hook hanging free at the top. I was chatting to him about joining me for a Bream fishing trip in May, but I have to say the thought of joining him in Norway is a little more tempting! You need a lot of chips for one of those babies! Anyone fancy it late '06 / early '07? It isn't exactly cheap, but will almost defnitely be the trip of a lifetime. If we can get an idea of numbers and hopefully some deposits, I may be able to get us a group rate and some pretty good coverage for the club. If this is more than a pipe dream then please let me know and I will look into it properly. FYI: Lewis the Fish runs organised holidays to a number of somewhat warmer climates too so if this isn't your cup of tea let me know as I may be able to get you into Bill Fish, Shark, Tuna, GT whatever you fancy. Tom
  16. Just been on the deepsea website looking at Chris Caines' notice board. Scroll down the page to the bit about late availability. Who the hell is that really ugly bloke on the left? I am sure I recognise him! Either that or he has an uncanny resemblance to a certain senior member of the club. http://www.deepsea.co.uk/boats/tiger_lily/...notes_board.htm ....oh hang on a minute. All three look strangely familiar. Is it the wise monkeys? NO Is it the 3 wise men? NO Is it the 3 musketeers? NO Someone help me here... Nice Turbots though
  17. It is mothers day so a card in the post will make sure I get decent roast dinners for all of the coming year! If you look at "Trailaway Planning" at the top of this section of the forum you will see the plans for 26th. I think Adam is going and I am sure a few others will tag along too. Tom
  18. I do have a ridiculously large one on my other boat "Nautibusiness". It is WAY over size at around the size of a large childrens "space hopper". When driving the anchor out it still submerges, but has never failed to pop the anchor to the top. However the size wasn't the issue for me as I knew much smaller would suffice, the big ball shaped fender makes a perfect forward fender for those bad boat driving days that we all have and has prevented many an otherwise embarrassing moment when coming alongside just a tad too hard or an incy whincy bit out of shape. Something of about 14 inches across would probably be absolutely adequate. Tom
  19. Alun Unfortunately I have a full crew, but it does seem that a few club boats may be heading out on the bank on 26th March. Tom
  20. BAHHHHHH HUMBUG!
  21. I use http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk Gives a pretty accurate 7 day prediction free of charge. If you want to go further into the future then you pay for the privelage. Ports all around the world with several in Poole Harbour alone. Tom
  22. Hi All BB and Rich are booked to come out on Quest II. Final details to arrange. I have had very mediocre success on the flatties in the past (other Quest owners have doen well, just I am pants at it) so I am hoping to learn from BB and Rich. Target species: Plaice Turbot Brill and errrrrr HALIBUT!? Tom

    Dredging

I don't know what the answer is here, but can we point out the "misjudgement" to some environmental type people and see if someone can do something with a hoover type thing to move the silt WAY offshore. We seem to wreck our surroundings, environment, ecosystem over and over again and never seem to learn from it. Some "Scientist" tells us it will be ok as they have done calculations, but nobody actually talks to those of us that can see the true impact.
  24. Sounds like a very nice rod Alun. All through action is great with braid as it absorbs the more sudden lunges due to the lack of stretch of the line. Bit on the heavy side for me, but it should be a brilliant piece of kit for someone, matched up to a nice TLD25 or something.
  25. A beautiful start to the morning with the forecast giving a 3 to 4 through till 15:00. Left Weymouth harbour at about 08:00 and dropped the hook 13.6 miles later over our chosen wreck. Almost simultaneously with the anchor going down, the wind got up and was blowing a good 5. The rolling swell was now a really nasty sloppy old sea. Then the drissel came in too. Coupled with anchoring a bit close to the ironwork things weren't looking great. Over went three flappers and 10 mins later both Phil and I had typical "snatchy" bites. Phil's went slack as his had taken him over something sharp and cut him off at the leader, mine was right in the wreck and I had to break off, Barry's also went slack and was cut by something sharp as the boat swung about. B@gger! Time to reposition. Anchored a bit better this time, but the wind was now holding us just to the northern end of the wreck. Still a good chance, but not perfect. Wind is steadily increasing and holding 6 now. "This is much earlier than forecast" so on goes the shipping forecast. "Selsey Bill to Lyme Regis inshore waters forecast South 6 veering West 8 ocassionally 9 soon. Sea rough to very rough!" ....Time to come home Took a steady run back in with the sea building constantly , did a couple of reckies of some wreckies we were passing on the way in. Not too bad a ride once we were heading north with the sea up our jacksie and Phil had a bash helming us back to Weymouth whilst I felt sorry for myself. Interesting sea, biggish rolling swell (Average 5 foot topping 8 foot I guess). On the way out this was quite pleasant. Then as the wind built we then got a short chop on top of the swell. That made for fun boating. The boat was great , but she did get her whole shaft and prop clear a couple of times. Mileage: 28 Bait: 6 mackeral Bites: 2 Lost: 3 sets of gear Fish: Won (not one) That's fishing! Thanks Phil and Barry for the company, sorry your journey was wasted. Tom
