Have several boat moves around Easter and wonder if anyone fancies coming along for the ride? 1) After work on the 12th I need to bring my own boat around from Weymouth to Salterns. If anyone wants to come they would need to be at Salterns around 17:00. I will drive us to Weymouth to collect my boat, back at Salterns for about 20:30ish 2) Once she has been antifouled, new anodes and had trim tabs fitted I need to run her back to Weymouth (probably Good Friday). Time to suit us and tides etc. 3 & 4) Anytime after the 13th I need to bring a Leader 805 Sports Cruiser and a Merry Fisher 655 back from our offices in Southampton. Unfortunately I cannot let someone loose without me onboard, but we can do two completely separate trips. Whatever days we agree on we will meet at Salterns at about 9:00ish, drive in one car to collect whichever boat. Arrive at Salterns and then go back in the other car to collect the car which is in Southampton. 3 & 4 would be ideal if we had a total of three drivers as we could get both boats over the course of a day and still all get our cars back. Does any of that make any sense???? If so and you fancy coming along then please let me know as you will be welcome to join the ride. No fishing unfortunately as this is workish related and we will go in any SAFE weather, bumpy or not. Let me know Tom

"Martin" Thanks for the email. Happy to help. Have sent you a reply asking a couple of questions. Please answer those and I will see what I can come up with for you. All the best Tom

You have to be a wee bit careful. The recommended size from Bennet is WOT for most boats. I have an amusing video somewhere of a rather substantial boat that we fitted the suggested size tabs too. The guy doing the driving drops the nose with the tabs and the nose keeps dropping... and dropping... and dropping... It looked something like a car driving full speed into three feet of water. The guy filming from a different boat was wetting himself laughing, the guy driving the boat fitted with the tabs was handling it from the flybridge and needless to say was a little damp afterwards. We now tend to go for the tab down from the manufacturers suggested otherwise you need a distinctley gentle touch! Tom

Hi Martin I understand that you don't want to chat too much about it here on an open forum. I am sure that there is a really simple solution to where the appropriate paperwork is and the dealer will find it if you give him a list of what is required. You are welcome to email me at tombettle@southernmotorboats.co.uk or during working hours give me a call at the office. You can get my number by holding your mouse over the scrolling banner above at the top right of the page. Sorry, didn't want to stir anything up when you asked a simple MMSI question, but you have a right to the appropriate title docs for your boat and any reputable dealer will supply them from the off, or give a good reason why they are still waiting for them. Had a shoal of mullet fry in Saltern last week. Roll on Spring and less wind!!!

Glad the tabs worked well for you Adam. Having a set of Bennet tabs fitted to Quest II in a week or so when she comes out for her Spring clean. More or less the same reason as you. I want to improve performance, efficiency and ride in a big head sea. The boat is great in almost any conditions except for a head sea. Mainly due to all the fuel, ice, tackle and live well carried right in the wrong place... At and around the transom. Hopefully tabs will drop the nose a little in a head sea and allow me to cut through rather than bounce over. Being hydraulic, I will still be able to lift the nose in a following sea and surf. Can't wait and fingers crossed I will get the same benefit you have. Tom

????KAM, I am the local Jeanneau boat showroom????? Unless you mean Jeanneau Sail Boats?

Hi Martin Register on the forum. It's free, fun and full of guys who want to make sure we all do the right thing on the water. Just being nosey (you will soon find out I am very nosey), what boat is it? If the dealer was the original supplier of the vessel and then also the agent (broker) who sold it to you then he will have all the information and is oblidged to have forwarded it to you. If, as you say, he has subsequently sold the boat twice you should have the following: 1) A Bill of Sale from him (the dealer) to the original owner, a Bill of Sale from the original owner to the next, a Bill of Sale from the next owner to you. This is known as "Chain of Title". 2) There will definitely be a CE Certificate if the boat is CE plated as you say. This should also have been provided. 3) There will definitely be an Original Purchase Invoice, showing VAT as paid on the original sale. 4) There SHOULD be a Builders Certificate, showing the boat was built by the manufacturer and not a hull purchased for home completion. If it was home built there is nothing wrong with this, but the fact he was selling as a dealer originally shows it wasn't. Originals of all of the above is what you are entitled to and he MUST give you them. If, for whatever, ANY reason he cannot supply originals (usually the owner has lost them, which shouldn't happen if the documents importance is stressed on and over) then you are still entitled to CERTIFIED copies (stamped as certified copies) which at least gives comfort that the purchase / sale is all legitimate. Personally, I would not have purchased the boat without the above, however not everyone is aware of the above. You are entitled to and the dealer must supply this information to you. If he can't and he didn't give any reason (I can't think of a reason why not as he has sold te boat throughout it's life) why he hasn't provided these docs then I would have very serious issues with him and would be thinking about having a little chat with him. All IMHO, but as a broker and new boat sales guy I have a rough idea what a decent broker should provide. Tom

My next open weekend I am going to call the SUPER DOOPER WHOLE OF THE SOUTH BOAT SHOW, BEST EVER ANYWHERE. Be there or be square. 50p down will secure any boat with monthly payment of 25p for the rest of your life Disclaimer: 1) 50p down and 25p per month is only valid to those that reply within 1 second of respondng to this post. 2) Really it is an excuse for me to show case Jeanneau stock and any used boats I may have kicking around at that time 3) If I have them, I will fly a couple of flags to make it look a bit more impressive 4) It will be quite good, but not the best ever anywhere (the boats will be!). In truth, nest year I may well take a boat or two down there myself, just was a bit late this year to organise it... Tom

The advice that Coddy and Adam have given is pretty good and you will be able to get the radio re-set by returning it to the manufacturer. I was interested to here that you bought the boat through a marina and so "couldn't contact the previous owner". If you bought through a reputable dealer, broker, marina then you should have been given the boats title docs and history. One of the key docs will be a Bill of Sale for the previous owner to you. There will be a chain of Bills of Sale which will go through the boats ownership history to the first owner. The Bill of Sale has full contact details written on it (address not tel #) and invariably there will also be service history, other docs supplied that have contact details too. If none of this has been supplied then I would: 1) Ask the marina why not 2) Request that they get it for you 3) Take the hull number (etched, usually on the starboard quarter) and contact the manufacturer as they will have stored the orignal owners details If you bought the boat with nothing but a receipt that says something like: "Trade Sale with no warranties implied or given" and / or the marina said "we are having a clear out, do you want this cheap, we know nothing about it", then you may be stuck. Even so you should be able to trace some of the history. Your situation may be different, but I get so frustrated when people buy a second hand boat as if they are buying a second hand sofa and just part with cash, get given a hand written receipt and the keys. On a more expensive boat, always try and get: 1) Chain of Title (All the Bill of Sale docs from the previous owner to you, down to the original one from the supplying dealer to the first owner 2) Builders Certificate supplied when the boat was newfrom the manufacturer 3) CE Certificate showing the boat has been built to CE regs / standards 4) Original owners purchase invoice showing VAT has been paid 5) A proper receipt for your own purchase to go with all of the above 6) Any history and other paperwork, however boring it looks relating to the boat On a new boat, never accept it unless the supplying dealer provides 1 to 4 of the above. On a used boat, you should be able get all of this if people have followed standard practise and been careful with their docs. On a typical, cheaper, boat that you are buying with "throw away" money then take your choice and if no docs are provided then you are at least aware that there may be an element of risk to your purchase. Final point: If you have no info and you need to try and get some history your hull number will look something like this: FR - IRI 001201A606 The details can be broken down as follow... FR (usually stands for FRANCE) IRI (???? Never worked that bit out????! ) 001201 (The actual build number of the boat, ie: the 1201st of this model) A606 (A is January, 6 is the year built and 06 is the year model) Sorry not much help over sorting your radio, but IMHO, advice for anyone buying a boat to make sure they don't get fingers burnt or find unforeseen problems.... Tom PS: Good Luck getting it sorted Martin

Fry it in batter, add chips and wrap it in today's echo...

Hi Mate Welcome to one of the friendliest, most mickey taking, most sensible advice offered, most daft advice offered (mine) fishing forum on the net. Tom

Mike Just wanted to say it was a pleasure chtting to you when you popped in today. Always good to see another club member down here and thanks very much for the jacket! All the best Tom

I am sooooo confused. I thought everybody knew what a Tuit was, but I was convinced that a Wotsit was a big Oojamaflip not a Thingy or Thingmebob? Years of a good education and I clearly don't know the difference!

Up until the Summer I was based out of Universal Marina and did my own radio course with these guys. Very good, helpful and friendly. For those in Poole, there are several local people doing the courses, not least my old mates at Cruise Control who have excellent classroom facilities and a fully equipped training centre just around behind Toys R Us. I must have misheard the news on the wireless this morning as I thought they had rejected the plan and were keeping it as it is / was? PS: Is the forum clock going to change or does that work to GMT?

Everything has gone pair shaped! Thought that I may just get away with dragging a worm or mackeral fillet through the swash and onto the edge of the sands in the merest hope of a flat shaped fishy being tempted. Got down to Salterns to hop on a stock boat and the wind has got just a hint of East in it. No West at all which will mean it is nasty and lumpy out there. I am going home to drown my sorrows in too much tea and eat loads of biscuits in an attempt to become as lardy as some of my fellow brethern on here. Jeez I need to go fishin -
Try Predators in Kidlington - Speak to Tony or Monty States's in Witney - Derek State has passed away so don't know who now Fat Phil's on the Abingdon Road, Oxford - errr Phil You have dozens that will have packet of 1/0 Aberdeens (Brought up in Witney, Adult life until 2 years ago around Oxford) Failing that, I would be happy to post you as many as you want at cost price. I am no engineer so a pinch of salt needed. Can you not get a wrench on the bolt, leberal squirts of silicon around the hole and gently twist and tap it out. If you did a little bit of minor damage to the hull it won't be impossible to repair to a professional standard and not as pricey as you think. The most important thing will be water integrity. And yes, you should have the anodes! Tom

Anywhere open for bait on a Sunday in Poole? The inshore waters forecast is quite snotty still so I think the Shambles is probably out as it is exposed, but XC Weather is only giving SW4 until later in the afternoon and today's forecast (the same as for tomorrow) has given a beautiful calm NW corner of Poole Bay, even if it is damp. Rich, I am up for it if we can get some bait... Tom
