    Wed Or Thur

  2. Anyone fancy a trip out Wed or Thursday ( and back in time for the meeting ), provided I can get the time off work. Itching to test the new engine out

    New Engine

Paul, It will have the standard tank but I am going to keep my spare 12 litre tank up front and I am toying with keeping the old 25 litre tank but I guess that will be part of the trade in ( and I havent got room for it as well anyhow ). The economy I am expecting to beat the Honda - so 1.5 NM per litre at least and I am hoping for 2 NM per litre. Time will tell ! I know exactly what you mean regarding looking at the throttle - I was travelling everywhere on full throttle. Its been a long time since I remember what it was like to plane ! Anyone want to go fishing mid-week ?
  4. Adam, If anyone is short of crew ( unlikely I know, but you never know ! ) then my work colleague ( Westray ) will be up for it I am sure. ( Now I had better check with him )
  5. No problem at all ( I thought it was quite funny actually ) - If it is puzzling then feel free to throw the questions at me as I am more than happy to help.
  6. Dave, No need to worry regarding the sand - the tractor tows all the boats in and out and I wouldn't fancy trying to tow the boat out even with a 4WD !
  7. You are more than welcome to tag along when/if I go out this coming weekend ( in fact I am banking on having some boat out there as I will be trialling my new engine, hopefully ). Not sure which day I will be going out on yet - weather dependant. I will be launching from Christchurch - Wick or Mudeford. The fishing will not be so good for the next couple of months though.
  8. NOW !
  9. You show me how to catch the fish and I will show you how to upload to photo albums ------- I have actually found a really, really easy way to use the photo album. Download the attached file ( right click and then save as a name of photo.reg ) and then double click the downloaded file to add the photo server details to your computer's registry. Then make sure you are logged onto the forum in a window somewhere ( - The photo album uses the forum logins ) and in an explorer window navigate to the file you want to upload. Highlight the file and in the left hand pane of the explorer window you will have a "publish this file to the web" option. Select this and you will see the web publishing wizard start. Select Next > and you will have a window where you can change your files you want to upload. Select a few files and then select next. You should have an option to select Poole bay Small Boat Angling Club Phot Album. Do this and select next > You will then have an option to create an album to add you pictures and within a particular category ( Forum users will have My Gallery or No Category - Admininstrators will be able to add to All categories - ie. Fish / Boats etc. ) If you already have an album then select it and select next to start upload.
  10. Neo + crew ( Sam Chapman unless he doesnt want to go for some strange reason ! )
  11. I have also added last years Alderney trip photos, last years Burnham trip photos and will start adding fish pictures next. However, I would like to encourange others to upload pictures - it really is quite easy. Photo Album cheers Paul
  12. Coddy, I will increase your "quota".
  13. I caught a flounder up by the round 4 knots sign some years back ( about 5 years ago )

    New Engine

Your money will be safe Rich, I think 22 knots should be achievable ( max speed rating of the hull ) and maybe 25 in flat conditions but I dont fancy going any faster.
  15. I still need to upload a hed load of boats but you can upload pictures yourselves as well.

    New Engine

Paul, Boat is booked in for fitting and I will have the engine sorted by next weekend Phoned Orkney and had a long chat with the guy there. Apparently the 35HP rating is not due to weight of engine or strength of the transom, it is due to speed of the hull through the water and the ability to turn the boat over if you had too much power in wrong conditions. So looking forward to testing the new engine out. I hope it doesnt have the problems that Mark B has had with his though - his engine cowling was cracked so he is waiting for a replacement to come.
  17. Photo AlbumNot quite finished but should be using your forum logins.

    Dry Feet

or further east, Lymington - Bath Road slipway has a pontoon as well.
  19. Mike, Very nice explanation and if I have read it correctly, almost exactly the method I use. I keep the warp made off at the front cleat with a typical length normally used to anchor in the bay ( ie. around 50 Ft ish of warp ). The warp then runs through my bow roller and down the side of the cuddy to my railing on the side of the boat. I tie off the slack to the railing and the excess is then dropped into a box with the anchor. At time to drop anchor I untie the warp from the railing ( this is to stop it paying out whilst underway with possible disastrous consequences.) and drop anchor. If more warp is needed I release some at the front through the hatch. At recovery time, it is a steam out as you describe. Warp is recovered over the side and then tied off to the railing ( this part I didnt see mentioned by yourself, so how do you prevent the warp from paying out whilst underway ? ) When it is time to trail home I either make sure the anchor / warp and box are at the back of the boat ( lazy method ! ) or take the anchor and warp out and stow it in the space for this purpose at the bow of the boat. Note how at no time do I need to remove the pin holding warp in the bow roller and it has the added advantage as I can attach a painter to hold the boat after / before launch.
  20. Exactly Mike. Take a look at the Grand Banks. It was one of the world's ( if not THE worlds ) biggest cod fishery. The commerical fishing of this area decimated the cod stocks to the degree that that are virtually extinct in the Grand Banks. The commercials went out of business as it was not economically viable. I have a very interesting book on Cod and the history of cod fishing if anyone is interested.

    Insurance

I use BoatInsurewho are in fact Amlin Insurance services who are the people that Porthcawl use a lot. Just checked how much a quote would be with 2 years no claims =

    Near Miss.

Mind you - retrieving the anchor using the Alderney method in Burnham was not such a clever idea. There is say 10 ft of water, so steamed around to pull the anchor up and the buoy slid down the rope and evidently imbedded itself in the mud. Problem then is you dont know where it is ! Our "buddy boat" at the time told us - "meant to tell you not to do that "

    Story Archive

Many thanks for the article Jack. I am going to find out how to get the software to show the article without it being in italic quotes all the time. We could have a good selection of stories in the end.
  24. and indeed is ..... Pressure effects on tide This weekend press was around 1035 which gives approx 1ft less of water.
  25. The theory here ( at work ) is the high pressure over the weekend had something to do with it. - Sounds plausible to me.
